XEITH'S—“A Royal Ren- dezvous.” Ones of the daintiest sketches pre- sented in vaudeville is Edgar Sel- wyn “A Royal Rendezvous,~ at Keith’'s this week, with Florence Reed in the star role. Costume plays sel- don are on vaudeville programs on account of the cost of the costumes and scenery and also because they demand the best of acting. Patrons of Keith's, therefore. may be con- gratulated upon having the oppor- tunity of seeing such a dainty bit {as Mr. Selwyn's latest effort. Miss Reed comes in front of the curtain before the play opems, and in a rich voice gives an outline of what may be expected. The lines are a running blend of comedy and pathos. and in the dramatic parts, the really good acting is easily discernible. ~MNiss Reed wears a_ gorgeous creation of color and richness, and with the paint, powder and patches carries the imaginative back to the other days when they were the vogue. Miss Reed is an actress of rank, and her artistry is especially noticeable in the love-making with King Louis IV, or the lover, Raoal Vernet Reginald Goode and Lionel Glenister give th star excellent support. The Story one of the many romances of Louis 1V, and unfolds how a clveer woman | secured the pardon of her lover, who icared little for propriety or law. the conclusion, Miss Reed was re- peatedly called-Before the curtain. Other entertaining numbers include an exhibition of magic by Leon and company, the speed of production and execution adding much to the offering; the Arnaut brothers, who whistle their way into the good graces of the audience; Thelma and Marjorle White, newcomers; in songs and dances; Margaret Young, in in- terpretative songs that won many Rice and Werner, in a rou Calits brothers, in songs and dances; a sensational cast- ing exhibition by the Four American Aces, and the usual picture novelties.
