KENTUCKY TUNES 10 BE PRESENTED Many at Arms Conference Will Hear Program of Moun- tain Songs. The “lonesome tunes” of the Ken- tucky mountaineers will be sung at a concert to be held at 8:15 on the evening of December 10 at the Cen- tral High School, under auspices of the Community Center department of the public schools, in co-operation with the Washington Society of Fine Arts. Tickets are on sale at 1741 ll | New York avenue and may be obtain- ‘jed at the door on the evening of the Il | concert. The program will be given by Loraine Wyman, who sings the tunes, and Howard Brockway, who'has set them down. Program Is Varied. . The program, as arranged by Miss Wyman and Mr. Brockway, while stressing the Kentucky mountain songs, is varied enough to hold the interest of the audience. There is one group of French songs, includ- ing “La Fille de L'Hermite" and “Le Cycle du Vin”; Mr. Brockway will l| | render several piano solos, and there will be two groups of the Kentucky whose titles suggest® their Your Home Comfortably Heated Before You Arise in the Morning A Furnace tarting Clock No more going down into the || cellar in the wee early hours to turn on the furnace! Dear Folks: Never was the logic of the old moth-eaten adage, “Every jack to his own trade,” brought home to me clearer than after a turrible unpleas- ant scene I had with my landlady, fol- lowin’ a hglf hour’s set-in with Mon- soor Malini, the world's incomparable magician, up to the New Willard Ho- tel yesterday afternoon! Fresh from a audience with this truly remarkable little now-you-see- it-and-now-you-don’t master, Who can pull a caviar sandwich outa your necktie with the same nonch'lance that he directs you to send back to the chef the ruther tasty welsh rare- bit you discover hid in your pocket, I had the brazen gall to try to show the lady who collects my rent just how easy I could tear up one of her best ten-dollar bills without rully de- facin’ the notepiece! Details of the operation are superfluous! Malini not only done it, but explained to me just how it was did, and that I was enough to think I 1d get aw: with the maneuve 't no- body's hard luck but my .wn, and now I gotta dig to make good with the.room missus! But, hon folks, never in all my meanderin’s have I come face to face in limited quarters with sich a truly ' indescribable human bein’ as this 1i *nut” Golden Tree, Thomas and _Fair. a-Courting Went" Maid's_Song.” As the “lonesome tunes” are dis- tinctly an American contribution to the world's store of music, the con- cert by Miss Wyman and Mr. Brock- way is in a sense a compliment to the conference on the limitation of armament. The number of replies !from the foreigners who were in- | vited as guests and from the Ameri- !cans who are prominent in the busi- iness and social sides of the confer- tence shows that the opportunity to ihear this folk music is appreciated. Will Attend Concert. Among those who have accepted are Rene A. M. Van Crombrugge, i chancellor of the Belglan embassy: . Capt.
