MILWAUKEE, October 31.—The two- masted salling vessel Rosabelle of the House of David, Benton Harbor, Mich., was found floating bottom side up in Lake Michigan, forty-two miles east of Milwaukee, SBunday, it was reportsd to- day by officors of car ferry No. 4, Ann Arbor, who made the dlboovcrg. No trace of the crew of four was found. The Rosabelle was used to bring supplies to the Hot of David, According to Capt. Shriver, vateran financier and president of the Metropolitan Savings Bank, dled yesterday, aged éighty- one. Special Dispateh to The Star. ALEXANDRIA, Va., October 31.— James E. Alexander, seventy-nine years old, one of the city's oldest and best known resldents, died a few minutes before 7 o'slock last night at his residence, 803 Cameron strset, after a long illness. He had been in falling health for a long time. His funeral will take place at 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon from the M. E. Church Bouth. Services will be conducted by Rev. Dr. E. V. Regester, pastor of that church, anl burlal, with full Masonlc honors, will lbe r;n the Methodist Protestant ceme- ery. The deceased {s survived by his wife, two daughters, Miss Edna H. Alexander and Mrs. Charles M. Stump, and a son, Elmer I Alexander. The deceased was a veteran Navy clerk and retired from the service in August, 1920, after having been con- tinuously on duty for fifty-four years in the Navy Department in Washing- ton. At the time of his retirement he was chief clerk in the bureau of navl- gation of«the department. The deceased was born in Alle- gheny, Pa., but had been a resident of Alexandria for the past fifty-seven years, having located here in 1864. He was prominently identified with the Masonic fraternity of this city, having been at the time of his death the old- est past master of Andrew Jackson Lodge, of which lodge he was secre- tary for the past forty years, was past grand high priest of the Royal Arch Chapter in Virginia, member of Acca Temple, Mystic Shrine, and also a member of the Scottish Rite bodles. Mr. Alexander was secretary of Alex- andria Council, No. 627, Royval Arca- num, he having been secretary of that organization for the past forty vears, and for twenty-five years he was su- perintendent of the Bunday school of the Methodist Episcopal Church South. Sohn W. B. Melvin, about ehar-| ty-seven years old, died at Walter Reed Hospital yesterday, after an 1ll- ness of slightly less than one year. Maj. Melvin was employed in the editorial department of The Evening 8tar for several years previous to the outbreak of the war. Shortly after the declaration of war he enlisted in the Engineer Corps and was stationed at Washington barracks. On September 28, 1917, he received his commission as second lieutenant in the infantry of the National Arnfy. He became a first lieutenant in the Quartermaster's Corps on October 22, 1917, while with the 30lst_Stevedore Regiment at Newport News, Va. When the regiment went to France on No- vember 12, 1917, Melvin was with them. During February, 1918, he was trans- ferred to the headquarters pay section at Tours, France, and was commis- sloned captain of the Transportation Corps on October 1, 1918. On May 2, 1819, he received his commission as major, and returned to this country October 30 following. When the National Army was de- mobilized his commission was made a permanent one in the Regular Army, and he was placed in the war plans division of the general staff here until January 25, 1920. From that date until November 15 he again was with rtation service, until he be- ovember 15, 1920. He was Lut was. transferred April 15 to the Army and Navy General Hospital at Hot Springs, Ark. He returned to Walter Reed Hospital for treatment on July 21 last. Maj. Melvin was the son of Rev. A. D. Melvin and Mrs. Belle W. Melvin of Bualtimore. He is survived by his mother. Thompson. a nlece of the testatrix, and he is to hold a trust fund of $6,000 for the benefit of Nannie Lee, a faith- ful servant of the deceased, who is also to have $625 in cash. A bequest of $465 is made to Sarah Holmes, another servant. Cash bequests to be paid by the trustee include $5000 to a niece, Katherine Lee Jones; $1,000 each to C. Lucien Jones and his two childre $3.000 to & nephew, Roger C. Jones, and $1,000 to each of two of his chil- dren, and $200 to each of the other children; $4,000 to a niece, Mattie H. Haralson: $3,000 to a nephew, Catesby Jones; $3,000 to a niece, Mary Wisner, and to each of her children $1,000; $3.000 to a niece, Gertrude L. Melvin, and $200 to each of her three chi dren; $1.000 to a namesake, Virginia Thompson, and $200 to each of her children.
