The Americans are wear: of the’former. but the French women contiuite to wear their suit, especially jn the streets of Paris at this season of the year, which they consider the time for shopping and arranging thefr household affairs, just as we do Qe sees the smart women every where about town, and especially in the salons of the dressmakers, wear- fog these gray, mannish suits, with a. colored handkerchief, a pair of ornate slippers, a small felt hat, with the upturned brim pushed well over the eyes, dented In two or three places and two quills run tirough an -opening in the brim at the side. The sketch shows the new tailored suit as chosen by several of the best-dressed women in Paris. It does not strike a new note to us, but it stirs our memories of suits that were worn five years ago. It is of fine black broadcloth edged with grey squirrel. The cloth has the high luster and the suppleness of duvetine. It is Rodier's substitute for velours de laine. All the dress- makers use it. The coat sags over the walst line and flates in the Russian fashion over the hips and the tight sleeves have the new cuffs of fur.
