Although the volume of business|am Druggists transacted on the local Stock Ex- change was not especially large, the sevsion was interesting and prices, especially for the securities of the public utility corporations traded in. again displayed good strength. Washington Gas was the feature in the matter of strength, one ten-share lot being reported sold, but the price was 47, four points up over the cur- rent price at the opening of last week. Rallway preferred also displayed more strength and on a sale of a quotation lot, 25 shares, moved up to §9. There was a good demand for Poto- mac Electric consolidated 5s, with total sales of $10,000 at one price, 38%. The general 6s of the same corporation were firmer at 97. Thirty shares of Commercial Na- tional Bank stock sold at 167% (o 67. Clearings. Clearings of New York banks still show heavy losses, Philadelphia run- ning about $7,000,000 short of :usl ost year's record .and Baltimore $10,790,811 on Saturday. On September 21, Richmond, Dallas. Atlanta and Minneapolis were bor- rowing banks from other federal ‘reserve reglonals to the extent of 366,376,000, with Richmond a borrow- er to the tune of $24.728,000 and Dallas Both banks, have made $18,266,000. slight deductions, but Atlanta has in- creased its loans mnearly $4.000.000. Minneapolis has cut off $2,000,000 of its loans. The Pullman company earnings for the fiscal year ended July 31. 1921, show a surplus after taxes an charges equeal to $5.10 ' share on the capital stock as compared with $10. a share in the previous fiscal year. The depreciation charge was, contrary to general practice in these d: heavy, $6,267,339, as compared Wit no_depreciation in 1919-20. There was a deficit of $3.478,836 ter charges and the full year's div dend. The company has assets of $163.- 248,989.0f which $20,000,000 is in cash. It has $8,373,181 in securities and by bills receivable of $9,849,281. Peansylvania Earnings. Pennsylvania Railroad for August shows an increase of $8,752.848. and a decrease in operating expenses of 310,818,811, Net operating revenue increased $32,065,963. Pernonal Mention. The net operating revenue of the Baltimore and Ohio for the month of August was 93,441,402, made from gross earnings of $1,210,891 under; those of the same month last year and with a reduction in operating ex- penses of $9,328,406, although the comparison included $1.642,724.97 back pay applicable to the calendar years 1918-19 as a result of the increase granted by the Interstate Commerce Commission. In August, 1920 there was a deficit in net of $4,676,113. For the first eight months of 1921 the report shows railway operating revenue of $130,702,162, a decrease of $7.301,311. For the eight months the reduction in operating expenses accomplished by a saving of $20,888,704 in main- tainance of way, structures and equipment and $11,765,429 in trans- portation and other charges, a matter of $32,029,090 all told. The net revenue for the eight months was turned from a deficit of $5,554,891 in 1920 to $19, 172,888, an increase of $24,727.779.
