SOCIETY Ly ‘SPY GALLERIES’ OPPOSED Post Office Clerks Say They Indi- cate All Are Potential Thieves. Protests against the overhead “look- oyt galleries” in post offices will\be made at the convention of the Na- tional Federation of Post Office Clerks, to be held at Minneapolis, Minn., be- ginning Monday. “The crime detection phase of the work of the present post office in- spection force should be turned over to the Department of Justice,” de- clared Secretary Thomas F. Flaherty today. “The secret overhead lookout gal- leries, which are part of the post of- fice inspectors’ paraphernalia for detecting mail depredations, should be removed from every post office. The presence of these galleries in- dicates that postal employes are all potential thieves. The inspection force should function, we believe, en- tirely as personnel officials author- ized to see that the postal protec- tive labor laws are properly admin- istered.” MRS. EDWARD H.
