DON'T MISS A TEC GOD GF FLOWERS WHEN YOU GO TO PAN-AMERICAN BUILDING. -Washington. Dear Travel Club- bers: That was cer- tainly nice the way the letters came in about the Pan-Amer- ican building. So I decided to make a Tong visit down there and see what 1 ceuld- find for the members of the Junior Travel Club. I could stay a month right in the bullding and grounds and 1 hardly know _Where to begin. So I will begin with an Aztec god that .was dug up in Mexico. It now is opposite a wonderful pool that had lilies and alligators in it 1 do not know how ‘old the god is and there. are so many blg words In the his- tory of it that Mr. Babcock gave me a typewritten history of the god, so I would be sure and get it right for you and here it is: *“Xochipilli, the God of Flowers.” TRAVELOG BOY VISITS AZTEC MEXICO AND PLACED IN P4 (National Photo., Wash.) NAHUIACATL or four reeds (or canes), which serve to designate fire “The figure appears seated on the floor with its legs crossed, drawn up, hands raised arms and half closed, and head slightly thrown back as in a contemplative wi attitude. It discovered in Tlalmansaico, state of Mexico, on making an excavation. ‘There was found near which serves as a pedestal and vhich has the form of a socle. 1t bears on it the stone its four sides (or faces) almost sim- fiar reliefs, as follows: A double fret- work in the lower part, and in the upper part the flower exapetala com- pletely open and over whose cerolla centric matched circles on each side of the flower in three faces (caras), and on the fourth face (cara), there are two butterflies, one on one side and the other in the part opposite the same flower. These butterflies are noving toward the edge or border of the petals. The Discomforts of a-Vacation (6) There is now on the market a very compact two-wheeled trailer, costing not more than $375, which would be Just about right to carry the first aid kit recommended for vacationists by the United States public health serv- fce. But maybe a specially built box car or an old rebuilt Pullman would do as well. The emergency outfit I recommend for the vacationist may be carried in a pocket and should cost not to ex- ceed the price of a day's board. Here's the list—and may heaven have mercy on the reader who writes later and asks me to repeat the list, as he has mislaid the clipping: 1. One ounce of tincture of iodine. to be used for the immediate swab- ing of every wound or abrasion > 2. One ounce of flexible collodion, to paint over such wounds or abrasions as a protective dressing. 3. A spool of one-inch adhesive plaster. 4. A box or tube of lyptoline, which is an ointment of zinc oxide, boric acid and eucalyptol, excellent for burns, sunburn, mosquito bites. etc. 5. One two-inch gauze bandage. 6. One envelope or package of fold- ed sterile gauze. 7.” One ounce of aromatic spirits of | ammonia. ‘The remaining items are selected * from “The Medicine Cupboard”: 8. As many grains as_will dissolve in an ounce or two of water, bailed. will make an eye wash or mouth wash or gargle which is without superiors among safe antiseptics. As everybody knows, aromatic spir- its of ammonia, from half to two- thirds of a spoonful, given in an inch of cold water in a glass, is a quickly acting heart stimulant, fleeting in ef- fect, but without danger. In faint- ing. shock, or collapse from any cause it may be given every ten or fifteen minutes for half a dozen doses if nec- mildly laxative, agreeable five grains of menthol, five grains of methyl-salicylate, one ounce of oint- ment base—as an external applica- tion for relief of headache, neuralgia, and other pains. 9. Two ounces aromatic sirup of rhubarb—the civilized substitute for the barbaric castor oil. 10. Two ounces milk of magnesia— essary, always in water. The rest of the list calls for no ex- planation. First aid kits for travelers and mo- torists, as offered by the stores, re- mind me of brother Andell's fishing tackle—there is such a bewildering assortment that by the time one de- cides on the proper outfit for the oc- casion it is too late to do any fishing and one must hurry to get the tackle all dried and put away before dark- ness descends. On inspecting some of these fearfully and wonderfuily ar- ranged first aid outfits I often shud- der and think what a terrible predica- ment it would be for a doctor to be caught some time with an accident case on his hands and nothing but a $34.50 emergency kit to work with! The other day I watched seventy thousand dollars’ worth of fire ap- paratus dash up the avenue, crash into and wreck a $3,000 automobile and hurry on several more blocks to find only some smoke coming out of a $250 garage—and I thought ‘“That reminds me, I must include a first aid list in the scenario of ‘The Hazards of a Vacatlon. Sour Milk Biscuits Made With Corn Meal Almbst every one likes sour milk biscuits. Those made with corn meal may be new to some housekeepers. Corn Meal Biscuits.—1% cups corn meal, 2 cups sour milk, 1 teaspoon soda, 1 tablespoon fat, 1 teaspoon salt 2 eggs, 1 tablespoon water. Heat to- gether the corn meal, sour milk, fat and salt in 'a double boiler for ten minutes. When cool, add the well beaten eggs and the soda dissolved in the water. Bake in small pans that will give a large amount of crust. The kind ysed for “finger” rolls is best. Not all buckwheat cakes are made on the griddle. This is good if served hot.
