OTTAWA, Ontario, July 22— That the United States will ulti- mately annex Canada if the St : Lawrence canal project is com- pleted is the fear expressed by Rev. Canaon Scott, a prominent Quebec citizen. However, Cana- dians are not worrying over any such hint. Internationalizing the St. Lawrence, said Canon Scott, would be equivalent to moving the United States boundary line nortb to the St. Lawrence, and Canada might find herself in a hopeless which the United States was at peace and it might be necessary for us to close the river by mines or in other ways. “Why,” he said, “it i8 the very spinal marrow of Canada, and on its shores and the shores of its tributaries-lie the cities or villages of a large part of Quebec and On- tarfo. The internationalizing of the St. Lawrence would cut us off both really and sentimentally from the lower provinces. The thing is un- thinkable.
