The introduction of the brokers' call money market on the Washington Stock Exchange was a suc in so far as the offerings were concerned, but bankers and brokers were apart in their views by one-half of one per cent, with the result that there were no loans made. The Riggs National Bank and the American Security and Trust Com- | pany each offered $100.000 on call at per cent; the National Metropolitan Bank and the Liberty National each offered $50,000 at the same rate On the call 61 per cent was the best bid and the banks offering money refused to shade their rates. 1t is understood that the banks of- fering loans contemplated only New York collateral, as the local market too narrow to permit of s listed thereon as collateral. The offering of loans will continue from day to day. with the prospects of bankers and brokers getting to- gether. now that the latter know something regarding the daily offer- ings of cash that may be expected. Another New Concern. The Cleveland Discount Company has opened an office in Washington, being located at 734 15th street northwest. Hogeland, Randle & Speed are the representatives of the company. The business of the Cleveland Dis- { count Company is financing building {schemes of large importance, apart- ment houses, office buildings, hotels, etc. Against these the company issues bonds up to 50 per cent or less of the actual value of the property in its ntirety. These bonds will be issued t 6 per cent but marketed at a price to_insure a much higher rate. The total resources of the Cleveland Discount Company are $11,746,008.98. ‘Wall Street Notes. Information is to the effect that the Columbia Graphophone Company held during April the improvement made in its business during March. It is a matter for decision, probably at the next meeting of the directors in June, whether or not the preferred dividend will be declared. Recent declines in the price of the preferred shares have probably resuited from fear of a pass- ing or cut in the preferred distribu- tion. e The _highest post office in the world is at Pharjiong, in Tibet, situated 14,- 300 feet above sea level.
