The dancing, by the way, throughout the production is a particular fea- ture, with Mr. Santley and Miss Saw- yer as the leading figures in that part of the entertainment. “Tangerine.” ‘With rough spots smoothed out and the action considerably shortened, o ine,” & musical farce which o';‘:::v“«;rat the Shubert-Belasco last evening, will give promise. The music i catchy and the singing by Vivienne Segal and Douglas Steven- son good Breaking away from the zor!gecus splendor of a “chorus of 100" the producers have with a dozen women, & half dozen men, pleasing voices, a South Sea island and Herbert Co thell, whose droll humor is not un- known to Washington, fashioned a creditable musical comedy, both |fur|ny and eatisfying. Miss Segal is good looking and versatile. Douglas Stevensor as Dick Owens, a million- aire, who conceived the idea of a voyage to “Tangerine’ where the order of domestic things is reversed and men, as primitive, polygamous creatures, languish in idleness ‘while their wives make the living, gives excellent support to Miss Segal. The curtain discloses a scene in the “glimony jail,” at that time inhabited by three, all friends and all incar- cerated “for the sake of principle. Dick Owens, young _ millionaire, thrown in their midst by fortune, or misfortune, though not married, hopes to win his bride hy_reslnrlng her falth in marriage. This he proposes to do by reconciling the three in- Tates of alimony cell with their wives. Mr. Abbott sings early and often and contributes much assist- ance in making the act move smooth- ly and with pep. ‘A brisk chorus re- hearsal is a feature of the act. The FourUshers, a quartet of fine harmony singers, all girls and very good at that, will rank next, while Harry Rose, late of the Ziegfeld roof, wins his way almost to an ovation with a line of comical specialties, including a_one-character play, “with Belasco which is a scream. His clos- ing song also was a big hit. Tim Whelan and Priscilla King, assisted by Tommy Maher, present “Suite Six- teen,” a mnovel farce whose greatest wickedness is in being laid in a bath- room, but is very fuony, and Morris and Townes, with “nut” nonsense and songs, add merriment to a good bill. WJean @nd Valjean's aerial novelty could not be presented because of mechanical difficulties, but Manager Robbins of Keith’s helped out at yes- terday’s matinee with one of his fine eccentric dancing acts. A new high- class novelty is promised by Manager Brylawskl to complete the regular program. “Midsummer Madness,” a tense and most interesting photoplay, which has been called one of the best of the year, is the added matinee feature, while Mack Sennett's “Movie Fans” and other films and news features complete the bill at all performances. “A Night on the Beach.” Judged by some of the left hooks and uppercuts delivered by three ath- letic young women with the Lyndall Laurel Company in “A Night on the Beach,” at the Strand Theater this week, Mr. Kipling was not so far wrong when he referred to tite dead- liness of the female of the spi The act rightly deserves its descrip tion, the “Season's Greatest Oddity.” Marie Keel and the two Bower Brothers present a clever bit of syn- copation, and Margaret Merle, “Mel- odies of the Moment” a vaudeville treat. ‘“The New Hotel Clerk,” pre- eil, who laughter as’ two _and Gautier's pony the Kinograms and Topics NORWAY SWEDEN—DENMARK Continental Eurepe { Modern Twin Screw St Bergensfiord. .. This imitation pachyderm is used by the comedians, Joe Freed and Al Tyier, in a number of comical situations. A number of songs are well sung by Mildred Cecil, Irene Meara and Marty Dupree, and some fantastic dance steps are introduced by Al Mardo.
