SPORTS. THE EVENING STAR, WASHINGTON, D. c, MONDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 1921, SPORTS. 2 - C. U. Caters to Local Athletes for Its Meet : Illinois Has Great Quartet of Coaches OUTLOOK IS BRIGH FOR INDOUR GAVES Hopkins Has Lined Up Array of Stars for Affair Satur- day Night. BY H. C. BYRD. RACK and field meets to be T held in Baltimore and here by Johns Hopkins and Catholic University the coming Saturday and I March 3, respectively, may be the best of their kinds the South Atlan- tic section has known. And the two sets of games will be almost entire- ly different in their make-up, and cater to the public from two sep- arate angles. Hopkins is working up its meet by lining up big coliege and university relay teams and stars in individual performances to produce 'a regular “topliner” effect, while Catholic Uni- versity is depending almost entirely on building a big local affair with local sentiment entirely dominant. Both Should Succeed. Both meets should be successes. Hopkins, according to announcement, has relay entrants from Lehigh and Lafayette, Yale and Princeton, Syra- cuse and Penn State, New York Ath- letic Club and Meadowbrook Club and many of the stellar products of these organizations for the open and spe- cial competitions as main attractions. Such an outlay should draw a big crowd to the 5th Regiment Armory and develop some splendid competi- ion. Catholic University is trying to line up big _squads from Georgetown, George Washington and other col- leges and universities in this immedi- ate section, making a big play to draw large entry lists from the local high schools and clubs to organize a meet with strong local interest as its main feature. This method is just as certain to be successful in building up 2 big meet as the other. Georgetown will send about a score of athletes to the Hopkins meet Sat- urday night, and Catholic University also is going be represented by a small squad. ntral and Tech, and4 possibly Western, are likely to be the only high schools which will send teams. In the Catholic University meet, though, it is probable that every athlete in Washington who has | pulled on a track shoe any time this | Year will take part.
