HINT OF.RLOT TO BLOW UP mw YARD CAUSES SCARE "fiecret Service Operatives Dispatch- * ed to Scene at 1 A.M. Saturday. Mayflower Also Guarded. An alleged plot to blow up the navy yard and the presidential yacht May- flower caused the hurried dispatch of s@ecrot service operatives to the navy @ard_at 1 o'clock Saturday morning. and is stfll under investigation, it was fearned today. 2 Government officials maintained ab- #olute silence as to the origin of the syumor and the steps taken to run it down: Navy yird officers were inclined to treat the matter as a hoax. Neither the Department of Justice nor the po- lice department officially knew any- thing of the investigation. It was définitely ascertained, however, that the secret service hus been hard at work on the case since Saturday morning, when, it is stated, a warn- ing was Teceived. and is still follow- ing up possible clues. The govern- ment investigators, it is said, have gearched every foot of the navy yard nd the ships Iying there, but it is be- fe\u] nothing of a suspicious nature has been found, - The fact that the se- et service had' not abandoned the vestigation today was regarded as indicating it does not consider th plot rumor a hoax.
