Tree Work Exhibition, CHLDREN EXHBIT WODDEN CREATIONS ‘| exhibits are the work of pupils in the Nebraska Bill Would Exclude From District School Pupils Show Skill at Exhibition in Wil- son Normal. \ A miniature world and what hap- pens in it was placed on exhibition last night at the Wilson Normal School, 11th and Harvard streets. The nature study department of the pub- lic schools, and all Washington is in- vited to the show, which is open every day from 9 am. to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m., including Friday. This exhibition follows a three- month study of tree values which has been followed by a vote for a n tional tree, which the American Forestry Association is compiling throughout the country. The vote, a ballot for which appears in The Even- ing Star, will be announced as soon as it can be counted. Not only are the pupils voting, but grown-ups, too, are marking ballots. At the Wilson Normal exhibition will be found almost everything that can be made of wood. There, too, are all kinds of insect exhibits and minia- ture reproductions of history having to do with trees. The Force School pupjls have reproduced the sigiing of the treaty with the Indians by Wii- liam Penn. They have also repro- duced Gen. Washington with his troops beneath a famous elm. ‘The Monroe School has sent its en- tire “bird corner” to the exhibition. The Normal School children have done a garden in clay, while the Cor- caran School dontributes furniture done in walnut. The Dennison and Abbot schools have sent work in hickory. A complete bedroom set is shown by the Smallwood vocational pupils. The girls made the wall paper and the bedding, while the boys made th- set of furniture to scale. The Ross School made a companion set for the dining room. The Emery School shows a model for a new American dollar.. Gales School specializes in pine, while the Weightman pupils devote their ex- hibit to the value of the apple tree. A hickory horned devil s in the ex- hibit from the portable school at 18th and Monroe streets northeast. The work of the deadly “carpenter wasp” is a feature of the exhibit from the Addison School. The sycamore and what can be done with it is shown by the Blair and Monroe schools. A plece of an oak from Gettysburg is in the exhibit from the Buchanan School, while the value of the oak and its part in literature and history is shown by the Jackson, Lemox, Powell, Grover Cleveland, Brent and Park View Schools. i The Park View School has the honor of having an exhibit in every classi- fication, .and the Takoma School has turned in eighty-one birdhouses.
