LLOYD SEBASTIAN. The first fatal traffic accident of the year occurred vesterday evening, when Lloyd Sebastian, eight vears old, was struck by an automobile at 13th and H ing from his in- juries two hours later at Emergency Hospital. The accident took place with- in a few feet of whei ’'s mother, Mi Mary Sebastian, 315 ew York avenue, sat in her automol for her husband in a nearby barber shop. The child had left his mother and was playing in the street. He suddenly darted from behind the automobile di- rectly into the path of a car driven by John J. Cannon, 1 M street, who was unable to avoid hitting the boy. He picked the child up, and with Mrs. Sebastian, rushed to Emergency Hos- pital, where death occurred in two hours from fracture of the skull Police of the first precinct and Coro- ner Nevitt made an investigation of the affair. They were convinced that Cannon could not have prevented the accident, they reported, and he was notified to appear at an inquest at the morgue this afternoon. Rebecca Levy, forty-two years old, 2158 8th street, and Ada Mendelson, thirty-seven years old, 3420 11th street, were knocked down by a wagon be- longing to the Smith Storage Com- pany at 13th and U streets about 10 o'clock last night and painfully in- ured. They were given first aid at Garfield Hospital. Brig. Gen. J. M. Carson, in charge of the cnnstructmn service, quartermas- ter division, War Department, is con- fined to his apartment in the Brighton with injuries sustained Monday even- ing at about 6 o'clock, when he was struck by an automobile while cross- ing the street at Dupont circle and Connecticut avenue northwest. MARY C. TORNEY DIES. Sister at Visitation Convent Was in Her Seventy-Fourth Year. Mary Celestine Torney, a sister at the Visitation Convent, Georgetown, died at the convent yesterday. She was in the seventy-fourth year of her age. ®She was the eldest daughter of the late P. J. and Malvina Torney, and a sister of the late Surgeon General George H. Torney and of Mrs. Susan T. Montgomery. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. J. E. McNally of New York and Mrs. J. A. Smith of this city. Funeral arrangements have not' been announced.
