Wharf Being Rebuilt—Re- pairs to Police Boat—Per- sonal Mention. The Alexandria Marine Railway and Shipbuilding Company has a contract to build six large sand scows for Mr. John B. They are each to be SO feet long, 14 feet wide and are to have a depth of five feet. The bottom timbers for the first of the scows are already in position, and as the order is a hurry one the work on it will be pushed. The entire fleet will be completed and turned over to Mr. Lord by the middle of August. The scows will be used to transport building sand from the down-river digging grounds to Washington. Contractor Banks has nearly completed the rebuilding of the old Inland wharf at the foot of 7th street for the government ‘The work being done now is only te porary, as it is understod the plans of t engineer corps officers call for a very elab- erate structure when the general improve- ent of the river front takes place. The outer end of the old wharf has been cut off about twenty feet and rebuilt, new ples have been driven and it has been made a T- shaped structure, with the broad ena out into the stream, giving a good berth for not more than two vessels. Before it can be used, however, considerable dredging Will have to be done, as the straightening of the wharf has made the water in front of it very shoul. When the harbor po'ice boat Vigilant was placed on the ways at Bennett's yard Tues- day it was found that her rudder stock was in a worse condition than {t was thought to be. So badly is it split on both sides that an entire new rudder will have to be built and put in place before the boat can xo into service again. This will take three or f days. It is thought by the harbor offic: that the damage to the rudder w while the boat was backing in the i winter. Falling Off in Receipts.
