Detectives Recover Stolen Property and Make Two Arrests. The detective office at police headquarters presented the appearance of a picture store this morning. A number of pictures, frames and small ornaments. which had been stolen from Wm. H. Veerhoff's estab- lishment on F street, made the exhibit. The police charged that the property had been stolen by Louls Kohlmer and Robert Anderson, and these men, who were ar- rested about 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon, admitted their guilt. The property, recovered by Detective Browne, who also made the arrests, is valued at about $500, and it is the inten- tion of the officer to file several charges of petit larceny against the defendants in the Police Court tomorrow. Last night Ander- son was released on $500 bond, but Kohl- mer was unable to get the necessary se- curity. Anderson, who was first arrested, is about nineteen years old. He lives at No. 802 I street northeast, and was employed by Mr. Veerhoff until a short time ago. Kohimer is thirty-three years old and lives at No. 1633 Rosedale street. He formerly lived in New York, and was employed as foreman of Mr. Veerhoff’s workroom up to the time of his arrest. Detective Browne interviewed Anderson as soon as he was taken into custody, and it was after the officer had heard his state- ment that he arrested Kohimer and recoy- ered a number of pictures from his house on Rosedale street. Anderson was dis- charged from Mr. Veerhoff’s employ about a week ago, and yesterday was arranging to enlist in the army. Yesterday morning complaint was made to the police that pic- tures had been taken from the F street store, and Mr. Veerhoff was much surprised late in the afternoon when he found so much stolen property in the hands of the police. While a number of the pictures were taken from the walls in Kohlmer’s house, many of them were found in other houses in Northeast Washington. Some of them had been sold and others had been given away or hidden. Detective Browne is still Investigating the case, and the defendants will be given an opportunity to make explanations in court temorrow. ———.__ Had Never Heard of “Oomah.” At the hearing Tuesday last, in connec- tion with which a marshal’s jury rendered a verdict holding Joseph G. Creamer, a wealthy New York lawyer, to be of un- scund mind, Dr. Frank Hagner, when asked by Mr. Creamer regarding a work on in- sanity by an author named “Oomah,” re- plied that he had never heard of a writer of that name.
