There was a lengthy session of the exec- utive council of the American Federation of Labor at Typographical Temple this morning. The members assembled at 9% o'clock promptly and did not adjourn for lunch until near!y half-past 1 o'clock this afternoon. During the morning the council took up the case of the American Agents’ Associa- tion, the destinies of which have been pre- sided over by Mr. C. H. Sidener. Mr. George H. Davis of the firm of Ford, Bacon & Davis, electrical engineers of New York city, arrived in the city yesterday and will act in an advisory capacity in the operation of the street railroad controlled by the Washington Traction and Electric Company. Mr. Davis is a man of wide ex- perience in the electrical equipment and operation of street railroads, and Has re- cently been in New Orleans, where he met with much success in establishing a system for the operation of street railroads. Mr. Bacon, a member of the same firm, is a di- rector of the Washington Traction and Electric Company, and has himself given a good deal of attention to the task of bring- ing together In one system the various street railroad properties in this District owned by that company. Sullivan's last im- portant work in the navy was writing the report to Congress, by order of the bureau of navigation, of Admiral Ammon's party sent to Central America for the investiga- tion, of a canal route. It was during his service on the isthmus that Lieut. Sullivan became a victinrof malignant malaria, so prevalent in that country, which caused his retirement from the navy and ultimately his death. Though practically an invalid, he volunteered fot active service during the war with Spain, and was stationed at the "| League Island navy yard in Philadelphia. U.-held a meeting at its hall, on 6th street, last night, at which a large number of comrades were present. The membership, it was reported, 1s exhibiting great interest in the national encampment to be held in this city some time in October next. Mr. Worden gave notice that he would have thirty-five new members on hand at the next meeting, to be mustered in as a new command, to be called the Green Clay Smith Command. Under the head of good of the order speeches were made by mem- -bers of the organization, including ex-De- partment Commander Sam. R. Strattan. Cols. Block, Bogia, Tailey and others, all of whom eulogized the work of the nationat commander, Gen. R. G. Dyrenforth. —.__ Forfeited $100 Collateral. Sergt. Hodges, with Policemen Kilmartin, Bramlett, Purks, Riley and McDaniel of the first precinct, raided an alleged disrep- utable house at Yj. 1306 D street about 12:30 o'clock this. morning. Nellie WH- liams, proprietress of the house, was charged with keeping a bawdy house, an? several young women found there were summoned as witnesses. The raid was made because of alleged disorderly conduct in the house. Today in the Police Court Nellie Williams forfeited $100 collateral. — Work on the Dry Tortugas. ‘The work of establishing a naval coalirg station on the Island of Dry Tortugas has been suspended until November next, in order to permit the use of the island as a quarantine stetion by the marine hospital service during the summer season of con- tagion in the tropical countries, the Police Court building, with a view io seeing what changes will be rendered neces- sary in order to separate the children from older persons, in the event of the passage of the bill introduced Monday by Senator McMillan. They will also visit the police stations. The bill, as published in The Star, also provides that the sexes shall be kept separ- Ces while being transported through the clty. . ——>—_—_. Death From Cerebral Hemorrhage. Deputy Coroner Glazebrook performed an autopsy yesterday afternoon on the body of William Lewis, the old colored man from Hampton, who died at the Emergency Hos- pital, as published in yesterday's Star, and found that death-had resulted from cere- bral hemorrhage. Henry Lewis, a son of the deceased, lives in'this city. Members of the Grand Army took charge of tre body and will have charge of the funeral arrangements. —.__ Rule to Show Cause. A petition asking that he be made a party defendant in the suit of the Fidelity and Deposit Cimpany of Maryland against Messrs. Daggett & Dugan, in relation to the street sweeping contract, and to estab- lish his claim under a bill of sale to certain Property now in the hands of the receivers, Messrs. Peter and Hochling, was today filed by Herbert P. Pillsbury, through Attorney R. Preston Shealey.
