CLEVELAND, Ohio, September 21'—The women of Cuyahoga county are up in arms against C. F. Brenner, chief clerk of the court of insolvency. The women employes of the county have started a petition to Judge Bloch asking him for Bren- ner’s removal as chief clerk because of his action, through the Third District Republi- can Club, in presenting a petition to county officials calling on them for the discharge of all women employed as clerks at the court house and city hall. It is now a war of sex against sex. The ‘Third District Club is making a strong fight against women employes, declaring that women are useless in politics and should be ousted from all public offices. when the treaties became effective. It ts these treaties that relieve Japan from the operation of the extra-territorial jurisdic- tion on the part of foreign countries that has been asserted ever since Commodore Perry opened Japan to the world. Here- after foreigners resident in Japan will be subject to Japanese laws and to be tried by Japanese magistrates, under a code framed generally after that existing in France. _—_—______+¢ + _____—_ NY COUNTY DEMOCRATS.
