Secretary Gage of the Treasury Depart- ment delivered an address before the New York chamber of commerce at the annual Tanquet last night. His subject was “Cur- Fency Reform—Now or When?” Among other things, Mr. Gage said: Tre establishment of our currency and banking system upon more secure founda- ticns is the one thing lacking to the things which make for a permanent condition of Feasonabie prosperity. In securing this the pioneer in the west, the laborer in the mines, the toiler in the field. the mechanic in his shop, the mer- ebart and tke banker are all, whether they know it or rot, each in his degree aithe text to which T was called to speak is thus stated: “Currency Reform—Now or ree faplcaden I am absolved from all obligation to disc.ss the “how” or to go into details of methods to achieve cur- reney reform.
