Bridegroom in the Youngest Son of the Martyred Presi t. Abram Garfield, third m of the late President Garfield married at noon yesterday to Miss Sarah Granger Williams at Brightwood, the country home of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Porter Williams, at Glen- ville, Obio. The ceremony Dr. Hiram S. Haydin, Stone Cnourch. Mr. Irving Garfield, brother of the groom, acted as best man, and Miss Re will- iams, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. The bride wore a gown of rich ivory satin, the skirt plain and having a small demi-train. The bodice, enti illusion, was espe Hy lovely and becot ing. A cluster of orange blossoms was fasiened in the satin girdle encircling the waist, and some of these same nuptial blossoms were caught in the folds of the tulle veil fastened to the high coiffure, and enveloping the tiny figure of the bride. At her throat she wore a beautiful dia- mond brooch, the groom's gift, and carried a bouquet of white orchids from which de- pended a “shower of lilies of the valley. Members of the Garfield family present were Mrs. Lucretia Gartield, mot of the groom, and Mr. and Mrs. James A. Gar’ a of Mentor, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Gartield of Cleveland, and Mr. Stanley Brown of Washington was performed by Rev. pastor of the Old ly draped in cobweb and Mrs. MARYLAND. Being Taken Out Cecil Qunrrics. A special dispatch to the Baltimore Sun from Elktun, Md., say Much excitement Las been caused in northern Cecil county, Md., by the discovery of gold near Oak- wood. A few weeks ago Richard West and W. W. Davis of Port Deposit, Md., purchased two properties about Oakwood, They were those of C. A. Grubb, for which $4,700 was paid, and that of William Dor- sey, for $2,500, Since then James E. Haines has joined Messrs. West and Davis, and it is their intention to engage in mining on their properties as soon as possible. Samples of the fitrt rock have been as- sayed and the result shows that it carries from # to $4 in gold per ton. Philadel- phia parties have interested themselves in the matter, and not only will abundant cupital be furnished for development, but machinery necessary for handling the rock, including a concentrator, will be set up at the mine. The suppiy of gold-carrying rock in that neighborhood seems almost inex- haustible. The presence of such valuable mineral has set the countryside to specu- lating, and a number of flint rock spect- mens from other properties are receiving attention from assayers. aioe Naval Notes.
