The American clipper ships Tacoma, Cap- tain Caffrey, and Indiana, Captain Colley, Both from Philadelphia, former bound for Tacoma and Seattle and race. are the latter for San Francisco. Arthur Sew- all, late candidate for Vice President, is sole owner of the Indiana, which has traded around Capt Horn for twenty-one years. It is calculated that she should reach San Francisco in 120 days. Between the masters of these ships there has been much discussion as to their re- spective sailing qualities, and each agreed to deposit a sum of money, to go to the winning ship, after time and distance al- lowances shail have been made to the one gcing to the more northern port. The Tacoma was built in Bath in 1881, is of 1,672 tons register, and owned by Charles Davenport of Bath, while the In- djana is of 1.488 tons register, and was built in 1876. Mr. Sewali regards her as one of his best ships, despite her age. +e- To Do Something for Stiver.
