The present cold “snap” will have no ef- fect on the Saturday evening excursions to Fortress Monroe and Norfolk, on the Nor- folk and Washington Steamboat Company's steamer. In spite of the fact that last Saturday was decidedly chilly, a good-sized crowd took advantage of the reduced rates, and enjoyed the sail down the Potomac and Chesapeake bay, and Sunday at Old Point Comfort, Virginia Beach and Ocean View. Indeed, so weli was this excursion patronized that the management has de- cided to continue these Saturday trips as long as they are sufficiently appreciated. Traveling is a luxury and a pleasure on the steamers of the Norfolk and Washington line. Those who have taken these Satur- day excursions say the ride to Fortress Monroe and return Is not the least enjoy- able part of the trip. The steamers are very handsomely furnished throughout. They are lighted by electricity and }.ested by steam. They have all the comforts and conveniences of the modern hotels. And their tables are supplied with everything that the fall season affords—dining room service being alacarte. Steamer Norfolk will leave 7th street wharf Saturday even- ing at 7 o'clock, arriving at Fortress Mon- roe and Norfolk early Sunday morning, and returning to this city on Monday at 6:30 am. > ‘The Weather and the Coal Strike Do not affect the prices of our fuel. 8. 8. and is annoyed by Nellie Fly, the daring American newspaper correspondent, who on her trip around the world teaches him to respect American independence. Her meeting with Ambassador Li Hung Chang, his departure for America in search of an American heiress to wed the emperor, thereby hoping to replenish the depleted coffers of the empire with her millions, his arrival in New York and reception in Chinatown, and his aptness in acquiring American practices are all wetl brought out. He secures the prize, sells at auction the Chinese maidens, and departs for home. On his arrival in China he concludes to possess the heiress himself, but his du- plicity is discovered and he is thrown in prison, and a counterfeit emperor perpe- trates a succeseful plan for the bringing about of this result. EUGENIE BLAIR.—Eugenie Blair can easily he placed at the head of the strictly emotional actresses of America. She excels in the portrayal of sorrow and her wonder- ful power lies in repression. Miss Blair is of the school of acting of today, and has that intangible something calied magnet- ism to a great degree. She is always womanly and syrapathetic and has never failed to convince her audience of her sin- cerity and dramatic skill. Miss Blatr’s re- pertoire includes many of the standard Plays, such as “Camille,” “East Lynn. “The Iron Master,” “Jane Eyre,” “Car- me! “Mercy Merrick,” ete. in all of which this’ talented woman has won dis- tinction and renown. She was accepted as a star from the start, and has come at last to fill the void made by the retiring of Clara Morris and one or two other cele- brated emotional actresses. This charm- ing star will be seen at the Academy next week, appearing as Caunille Monday, Tues- day and Wednesday nights and at the matinee Wednesday. The Iron Master will be given the latter part of the week. MAY HOWARD'S BURLESQUERS.— America’s foremcst burlesquer, May How- ard, comes to Kernan’s Lyceym Theater next weck, supported by a strong aggre- gation of merry makers, presenting two new musical extravaganzas, “The Naughty French Girl” and “The Three Lost Brothers,” words and music by the .popu- lar composer, Fred Solomon. New feat- ures, catchy muzic and witty dialogue are interspersed throughout beth burlesques, which introduce shapely women with pretty faces. The olio comprises many well- known specialty acts, prominent among them Udell and Pearce, singing comedians, who will be seen in their latest and most successful creation, “The Serenaders.” The ideal Amazon of the season, Jaguarina, CPPS FOOSE SE SCOSIE SOT IOTOOD ‘More and Greater Are the cures produced by Hood's Sarsa- parilla than by any other medicine.
