WILMARTH & EDIIONSTON, 1205 Pa. Toegeicte soeae MATCH FOR CORBETT Probability of His Meeting Choynski in the Ring. WASHINGTONS AND BALTIMORES TODAY College and School Base Ball Con- tests. a CURRENT SPORTING NOTES So SAN FRANCISCO, Cal., May 1.—Infor- mation reached the city last night which peints to the probability of a match be- tween Corbett and Choynski. The reason for Parson Davies’ mysterious visit to the east is thus made apparent. He went to arrange a match between Corbett and Choynski, to be fought in this city in the fall. The parson took the trip in the in- terest of the National Sporting Club, and the officers of that organization have re- ceived information that leads them to con- fidently predict that the match will be made. Davies has urged Fitzsimmons to bring about this result, knowing that if Fitzsimmoas announced to Corbett that he would fight him after the ex-champion had beaten Choynski, Jim would probably go in for the battle. Fitzsimmons, it is believed, is lending himself to the project. Choynski is perfect- ly willing to fight Corbett for any amount. The orly trouble in bringing about the match has been with the latter. If the bout comes off it will be a twenty-round go for a purse of $10, All the National people are jubilant over the outlook The California Athletic Club announces a program for the 3ist instant at Wood- Ward's Pavilion, the principal attraction be- ing a fifteen-round go between Slavin and ice Butler of Philadelphia. It was at first intended to put Slavin up against “Thunder- bolt” Smith, but Smith did not seem anx- sous for the match. SATURDAYS BOSTON GAME. A Wail From the ¢ f Culture Over Klobedans's Work. The Boston Globe of yesterda: following to say of Saturday's Wathington game: There are times when we like to be alone. Last evening secmed to be one of those times for the Thembers of the Boston club as they gathered in the dressing room after the game to silcntly think over what might have been but for the most wretched exhibition of pitching ever witnessed at the South all grounds. player this time was the fa- vorite Klobedanz, and the boys were slow to express any unkind words to a young player who has accomplished wonders for the team, and gave his first really very bad exhibition of pitching. The home team had won four straight garres by first-class ball playing, and with “Kloby” in the box it looked like a walk- over, but the best laid plans of mice and men ga: g aft aglee, and that’s just how it turned out yesterday. “Kloby” was of no more account than a muzzled telephone. The home plate was charmed, and the Bos- ton pitcher worked like a song and dance man to get the ball over now and then, but it wouldn't ge Think of nin had the Boston- on balls and two men alt with pi Is in less than six innings; this was joby’s” record, and Was enovgh to discourage the home team. The home team drove Silver King out of the game in four innings, and started off with three runs on Lester German in the fifth. With the score § to 1 in the sixth, it look- ed like a waik-over if Kloby could ouly locate that charmed rubber. The home team seemed to quit, and fail- ed to show any “ginger” after this in the game. The visitors were now and “hot stuff,” w a chance to pull off one game. While the game was one whici the “fa will consider very yellow and thrown away, some fine ball playing was sandwiched in between drinks. Bobby Lowe did some brilliant fielding, as did Tenney, Duffy and Hamilton. The poor work of the pitchers must have affected Charley Ganzell, for ne all odds the poorest game of the se these grounds, aud the only bad game he has caucht this scason. Tom Brown, Demont and O'Brien did some gcod ground covering for the visitors The day was rather too cold and windy for good ball playing, and had considerable to do with the poor work of Kloby. Most of the crowd were disappointed to see the management keep a man in the box who was simply helpless. YESTERDAY'S LE \GUE GAMES. Louisville Defeated St. Louis Before an Immense Gathering.
