Real Estate Movements—Local Notes of General and Expecial In- terest to Residents. There was a pretty dance given last evening by the private dancing class of Prof. Henry Schlosser, at his residence, 3007 M street, which was well attended. It was in the nature of a pound party, and the members of the class each brought something, which was served during the course of the evening. The large dancing room proved rather small for the crowd, which was select, while the music was good. Among those present were Prof. and Mrs. Schlosser, Mr. and Mrs. Bowers, Mrs. Raeburn and Miss Lizzie Raeburn, Mrs. Weber and Miss Ida Weber, Mrs. Thomas, Mrs. G. Schlosser, Misses Mary and Maggie Fitzgibbons, Misses Lillie and Lulu Kidwell, Misses Kate McCarthy, An- nie Donnelly, Anna Newhause, Bertha Worth, Katie Hawkshaw, Annie’ Sommer- ville, Ada Storay and Nellie Schlosser, Messrs. Baker, Page, Deardoff, Tanelle, Divine, Harvey, Downey, Armatt, Mehan, Sheehy, Harrison, McPherson, Mozier, Everett, Stanton, Dougherty, Miles, Brun- ner and Wolz. The music was under the direction of Profs. Ogle and Huebner. The first hop of the season, given by St. Ann's Aid Society at the town hall in Ten- leytown, proved to be a very popular af- fair, and was very largely attended, the largest crowd that has been at any dance of the society for some time. Dancing was commenced at $ o'clock and continued until midnight, when special cars conveyed the city people to town. Messrs. Frank Ward and Spencer Johnson were in charge of the floor. Mrs. Annie charge of the supper table Misses Callahan and othe ment table was under the charj Shoemaker, who had a host of a Marriage Bells. The marriage of Miss Daisy Blackford and Lieutenant Charles Sawtelle took place today at noon at Christ Church, and was Witnessed by a large number of people. The nuptial knot was tied by Rev. Dr. Stuart, the rector. The bride is the daugh- ter of Mr. B. Real Estate. Building operations in this section of the ¢ity “are still continuing strong, and the prcspects are brighter than ever for a gced season. Mr. James Keliker of 1514 ‘32d stréet” has ‘started breaking ground on P street, north side, between 32d and 33d streets for the erection of a row of five brick dwellings. The buildings when com- pleted will be a decided improvement to the block, the site being a large vacant lot for several years. J. A. Baker has taken out a permit to erect a brick store at 3047 K street, the cost of which is placed at $4. The work will commence at once. Bad Condition. Thé condition of 37th street for its entire length frcm Prospect avenue to P street has been called to the attention of the Commissiorers, in hopes that some effort will be made to place it in condition. The street skirts the prorerty of George- town University, and is far worse than a country rcad. It is dangerous to drive Wagons over the thoroughfare, and in wet Weather pedestrians cannot use it. The street is without any sidewalks, and is illuminated at night with a few naphtha lamps. It is never cleaned, and refuse of all sorts remains uncollected on all parts of the highway. There is a movement now pending to extend this street to the Tenleytown road, but the residents of the present portion would be better satisfied if some little attention was shown the ex- isting street. Stock ¥ At the Arlington st ards yesterday there were a number of cattle placed on sale, going at the following prices: Best, 4 and 41-2 cents per pound; good, 31-2 and #£ ceats; medium, 3 and 31-2 cents; com- mon,.1%-4,and 3 cents. Sheep and lambs sold at the following quotations: Sheep, 2 and 31-2 cents per pound; lambs, 6 and 81-2 cents per pound; calves, 4 and 5 éents- A number of hogs were sold from 25 cents per pound. Eighteen cows and calves went from $15 to $45 per head. The state of the market was fair. Notes. John C. Hurst has transferred to Frances E. It Wax Opened Yesterday Under Most Favorable Auspices. The new bicycle court of the Eclipse Bi- cycle Company was opened yesterday and last night for the inspection of visitors. This court is situated on Massachusetts avenue between 17th and 18th streets north- west, adjoining the Force School building. It oeoupies-a large area of ground, the cir- cumference of which is about sixteen laps to the mile’ The court is to be used as a riding school, where persons may learn the use of the captious wheel under the best conditions and circumstances. The surface of the court is perfect for the pur- pose designed. There are dressing rooms, capable and polite instructors, and every- thing needful for the comfort of the patrons. The court is under the direction of Manager Lasley and Mr. C. Royce Hough. Over 4,000 invitations were sent out for the opening, and it is probable that num- ber of people attended. The place was thronged, and there was a steady stream of visitors coming and going. A large number of incandescent electric lights strung across the grcunds made the scene brilliant after dark last night. It is the purpose of the management to supply suffi- cient light so that persons desiring to learn to ride need not feel obliged to at- tend the court in the day. It is expected that this will add to the patronage of the court during the summer, when the nights will be preferable to the warm days for riding. The visitors to the opening yesterday were treated to an ee bicycle —————— Started Out Expressly to Get Drank.
