Mercer, Norton and Kim- ball will be on the rubber for the home club, and it is likely that Molesworth, the ex-Senator, will do the twirling for the Vir- ginia club. Today being ‘ladies’ day” and the weather pieasant a large representa- tion will doubtless be present, not to speak of the many members in town of the theat- rical profession who have been especially Invited. Ladies who suffer from poor health may gain Valuable information by reading of the astonishing Alecovery recently made by the Landon World. ‘This Journal has lately been investigating the cause of Queen Victoria's wonderful bealth and Strength, and has discovered that it ls due to the fact that she drinks whiskey Giluted with water. She does this by the advice of the court pbysiclans. The whiskey she Grinks ts obtained from a private distillery and ts, of course, rr. fectly pure. The facts above given prove two things: First, that medical men universally recognise that pure whiskey sustains the health and prolongs life, and second, that in order to do good the whiskey most be absolutely pure. The leading American ptyriclans have always indarsed these views. It 1s on this account that they have eo strongly Teormmended Duffy's pure malt whiskey to peuple whose systems need to be strengthened and built @p. This is because it ts the only medicinally Pure whiskey produced ta America, and in this Fespect it is totally unlike all others. 0 true fs this that while many temperance people denounce whiskies in general, they acknowledge the superior merit of Duffy's pure malt. There are, however, mauy inferior imitations sold by dealers, and when purchasing care should therefore be taken to eee that mone of these is substituted. a i a 'cKnew’s Daily Letter. “Easter” Wrap Elegancies. ‘We can only give you a brief bint of the magnificent stock of Easter Wrap elegancies gathered ‘here for your inspection. At the bat Sel- bach has persisted in being in the .300 class ever since he joined the Washington club, and although last season was his worst ex- hibition in that line, he registered .316, To the many spectators at National Park, Selbacn looks like an old timer, while in reality this will be only his fourth year in the big league. It was in the middie of June, 1893 when Manager Schmelz tele- graphed Al. at his home in Ohio to come to Chattanooga, Tenn., at once, and join the club representing that city. Selbach’s specialty then was catching, and he finish- ed the season with the Chattanooga club in that position. At the opening of the season of 1894 Sel- bach was one of the players brought to this. city by Manager Schmelz, but as the club then had aktout six catchers on the pay roll the stocky little German was shifted to left, and his exceilent work has kept him there ever since. ae. "as his comparions call him for elongs to that class of players who will do almost anything to win a game cf ball, and with this pugnacious trait one of the easiest men in the professio: to get along with. Outside of the base ball game proper, Selbach is a thrifty fellow, his weak point being base ball bats, and he has turned many an horest penny selecting exceptionally good sticks for a majority of the Senators and for many playing with cther clubs. It has become a by-word with the players to say: “If Al. says that stick is a good one it goes.” Tom Brown was out with the other Sen- ators this morning taking .the usual morn- ing practice, and told a Star reporter hia injured leg had regained almost its usual form. Tom will be back in the game this afternoon, taking his regular place in cen- ter field. short, YALE B RUN. Georgetown'’s Nine Played the New Haven Boys a Close Game. The largest gathering that has put in an appearance.on Georgetown field this season saw the Yele team beat George- town yesterday afternoon by the margin of one run in a game that was chiefly not- able for its great length. The George- town boys were weak in the field, especial- ly Rearden, who had a bad day off, and are charged with four errors, nor could they hit when hits meant runs. Seven errors are charged to the blue and gray, while but five hits were register- ed off Fearey's pitching. Yale made twice that number of hits, and although the blue’s playing in the field was none of the best, still Georgetown could not seem to take advantage of the chances present- ed to gain.runs. Outside of the batling Walsh had a lit- tle the better of the Yale pitcher. He struck out eleven men to Fearey’s nine, and but for the disastrous errors behind him would undoubtedly have kept the Yale hitters down in better shape. Gecrgetown started off well, making a run in the first inning, and then the col- lege rooters. began their work. The root- ers“were marshaled into bands, each with its leader, ard the din they made could be heard’ 2 mile. Qutside of the rooters there was an excellent attendance, many wearing Yale’colors. The society element formed a large portion of those who view- ed the game from carriages. in the third Yale made three by hits and errors and three_more in the fifth. In the eighth Georgetown made two, tying the score, and the scene that ensued defies de- scription. In the ninth ‘Fearey did some clever werk, striking out Walsh and Maloney, the Georgetown hitters going out in one- two-three order. Then Yale made the winning run. Ham- lin hit a hard one to Reardon and reach- ed first. After Greéhway had struck out, Letton was hit. Then Wear, who already had three hits to his credit, one of them a home run, finding a ball that suited him, smashed it for a triple, and the hopes of the spectators at the same time, scoring Hemlin and winning the game.
