There were too many people around for her, or possibly the jump from the bridge might heve been too great. At any rate she boarded a Great Falls car, and getting off at the Chain bridge station wa~dered down to the canel, where she made the leap. Holy Week. STEVENSON ON BIMETALLISM. He Regards the Matter as One of Great Importance. Ex-Vice President enson Said yes day at Blocinington, IIL, whi about his appoiutment on the commission for the promotion of an International agreement: “f appreciate the compliment paid to me by the President, and will cheerfully render what assistance I can to accomplish the object of the commission. “I am a bimetallist. I regard the res- toration of silver to its proper money func- tion as the supreme question in our own country and throughout the world. The importance of the question cannot be over- stated. In this country the increase in the volume of business is beyond computation, In the light of these facts the rehabili- tation of silver is a prime necessity. Should its demonetization become the settled pol- icy, the evil days upon which we have fallen but dimly foreshadow consequences yet to come. “Whatever our views may be as to the ability of our government to maintain the free and unlimited coinage of silver with- out the co-operation of the leading coun- tries of Europe, it may be safely assumed that every friend of silver in our coun- try will welcome international bimetallism. “As to the impossibility of success of this commission, it is known that the trend of vublic sentiment in European countries, as well as our own, is undoubt- y favorably to bimetallism. oicany ‘of the vublicists of England and Germany are in earnest accord with our government upon this question. Should public centiment in those countries justify an international conference would un- doubtedly be called and action taken that would be deemed proper.”” sae TAKEN TO TERRE HAUTE.
