There was a line of carriages which took cn almost the proportions of a procession going across the Aqueduct bridge between ) and 2:30 o'clock today, and their oc- cupants comprised the representatives of the fasbion and society of the national capital. Many of the vehicles stopped at the links of the Washington Golf Club, where the open tournament of the cup of 1897 is in progress, but the majority went further to Fort Myer, where the field sports were to be held under the auspices of the cfficers stationed there. There are five events on the program,. beginning with a half-mile steeplechase, in which army officers, members of ‘the Chevy Chase Club and some Warrenton fox hunters are en- tered, numbering in all sixteen entries. There will be two other jumping events ever the same course, and two flat races, as well as jumping contests for ponies and kunters. The steeplechasc was run at 3 o'clock. The judges are Capt.
