Rev. Dr. Oliver A. Brown, who has served the Foundry M. E. Church as its pastor for the past five years, delivered his farewell sermon yesterday. At its close he read a brief note expressive of the relations that heave existed between Fastor and people during his continuance with the congregation and praying for a blessing upon them all. In accordance with the itinerant’ practice ‘of the Methodist Church, Dr. Brown will be assigned to another church by the general conference. In all the Catholic churches yesterday a letter was read from Cardinal Gibbons and Archbishops Ryan and Keane, a com- mittee on Indian and negro missions. It sets forth the need of enlarged contribu- tions for the support of such missions and schools because of the withdrawal of gov- ernmental aid. — A Swarthmore Evening. A number of old Swarthmoreans met most pleasantly Saturday night at 1719 1 street northwest as guests of Miss Mary Willets, one of the managers of the col- lege, who is now visiting in Washington. The event was marked, as is happily the case with most Swarthmore gatherings, by a goodly number of college women. The evening was spent so delightfully that a strong sentinent prevailed that steps be taken then and there toward inaugurating an annual gathering of Swarthmoreans of Washington and vicipity. —<—<—————__ A Valuable Reference Book.
