Recent Huppenings Among the Sta- nts. The regiment will parade with Haley's Band on the 4th of March instead of the Mount Pleasant Field Band, as at first stated, as the latter band made an engage- ment with an out-of-town organization, which objects to their doing double duty. The high school boys have taken a prom- inent part in local athletic circles of late years, and they are now looking for broader fields in which to display their abilities. The Central boys are taking the lead in this matter and are trying to bring off a field meet with the high schocls of Baltimore for the inter-city championship, the meet to be held in this city after the District inter-high school games. The Washington team to be made up of the winners in the District meet. ‘The prospect of the Central boys getting away to Philadelphia locks very dark at Present, on account of the difficulty of se- suring funds, but it is likely that thcy will send a relay team over to Baitimore for the indoor games, the 20th of March. Central. Many of the boys are afflicted with the base ball fever. They will try to get the Georgetown College field every Saturday morning for practice. The following are trying for positions: Oyster, catcher; Shuster, shortstop; Tisdell, first base; Mc- Kinney, third base; Bogan, Edmonds, Hoover, Bristow and Mueden, field, and Rogers, Griffin and Hoss, pitchers. Eastern. The Eastern High School Social Club held its bi-monthly meeting at the home of Miss Sparks, 131 D street southeast. The next meeting will be held at the home of Miss Easton, 616 East Capitol street, on the 19th instant. Miss Potter of the fourth-year class gave a humorous account of the current topics of the day to the students last Tuesday morning. Dr. Brantz Roszel, teacher of physics, is sick at his home, 1123 Bolton street, Bal- fete suffering with a severe case of iD. The fourth-year students having felt the need of a social organization the oid “Inter Nos” has been reorganized, with the fol- lowing members: Misses Alice Sever, Bessie Stuart, Nora Courts,Georgie Forbes, Bessie Harley, May Weide and Irene Sand- erson, and Messrs. Walter French, J. Strother Miller, J. V. Kelly, Robert Patter- son, Fred Yount, Dana White and Herbert Hunter. Busine: A number of the boys recently organized a debating society, with the following offi- cers: Mr. Tydings, president; Mr. Wey- rich, vice president, and Mr. Wheaticy, secretary. Mr. Wheatiey having resigi Mr. Gause has been elected to fill the v: cancy. The club's paper, “The Debating Ga: zette,”” published by the members, is 1 at every meeting. Western. The Western Athletic Association has been organized with the sole purpose of furthering the athletic interests of the Western. It consists of thirty members, who represent the best athletic material in the school. At present the club mects at the home of its president, Mr. Tanner. As soon as spring comes it is intended that conscientious outdoor work shall be begun, with the hope of bringing glory to the dear old Western in the spring high school games. Even in so short a time marked ability has been shown by the members, and particularly in Mulligan, Smart, Buck, May and MacGowan, while the athletic abilities of Taussig, Tanner and Birch goes without mention. When spring comes the Western will have quite a team to put on the track. Those who have already taken part are: Taussig, Tanner, Hudson, Berry, while Smart, May, Mulligan, Borst, Hilton, MacGowan and Lamberton will undoubied- ly show up well. The officers of the as- sociation ai President, Mr. Tanner; president, Mr. Birch; secretary, and treasurer, Mr. Taussig. Preliminaries for a base ball club have already been started, and much promising material is avatiable, namely: — Buck, Leete! Petty, Mulligan, Smart, Tanner, Berry, Brewer, Hilton and Taussig. Mr. Petty is manager, and has already made arrangements for uniforming the team. Mr. Bryan, who is very popular at the Western, will materially aid the team by experience gained as a member of the Johns Hopkins team. The team is sure of making a creditable showing. Kamptown affairs are again assuming a lively, business-like hue, with the selection of a cast composed of members of the sckool to put on a most admirable selec- tion in the early spring. Its officers are: President, A. E. Berr, vice president, Alfred Wright; treasurer, ©. W. Tanner: Secretary, E. A. Duckett. Active members: Messrs.
