CHARLES F. BENJAMIN, WILLIAM H. DUNCANSON, ‘Trustees. Place of Residence. But little more than routine business was transacted at the regular monthly meeting of the Columbia Heights Citizens’ Associa- tion, held last evening at St. Stephen's Hall. President M. A. Ballinger presided, assisted by Secretary George Simmons. President Ballinger, on behalf of the com- mittee on street railroad transfers, report- ed that the Capital Traction Company had, as reported in the daily press, agreed to transfer residents of Columbia Heights and adjacent sections from 14th street to U, and then to 7th by means of registered ecards furnished to residents, their families and servants. Mr. Ballinger explained that the road was quite willing io 16 what was right in the matter, merely desiring to pre- vent an abuse of the transfers. Mr. Bal- linger also stated that strange as it might appear, a man had recently been convicted for dumping garbage in Columbia Heights. Was glad to say that hereafter the law seemed likely to be enforced in their sec- tion. After James McCallum, Joseph Tyssow- ski, E. F. Smith, B. W. Lewis, Howard Ed- monds and Benjamin Platt had been elect- ed to membership, the District Commis- sioners, upon the motion of Mr. Calhoun, were requested to urge upon Congress the passage of a law which will require the Brightweod- Railroad Company to remove their dangerous and unsightly wooden pcles on Kenyon street and adopt in under- ground system. Upon the motion of Secretary Simmons it was resolved to ask the District Com- missioners for what purpose and by what authority poles are being erected on Clif- ton and other streets in Columbia Heights. In the discussion of the ‘notion the mem- bers of the association unanimeusly re serted their belief that the best interests of the community deman‘ that all wires, electric, telephone, fire, police and tele- graph, should be placed under ground. Mr. O'Donoghwe called attention to the beauty and advantages of Columbia Heights as a place of residence, and suggesied that the association shouil endeavor to induce members of Congress, officials and others to dwell on Columbia Heights. Congress- men especially, he thought, would be de- sirable, as they would afford protection against threatened overhead wires, con- tagious hospitais and things of that kind. Following the suggestion, Mr. Bundy moved that a committee of five be appoint- n020-d&ds THIS EVENING. Auction Sale of Lots On the Conduit Road, Palisades Subdivision, AT ROOMS OF C. G.
