Magruder, who died a few days ago while visiting friends in Frederick, was one of the best-known residents of the section of Prince George’s county, Md. which ts adjacent to the District of Colum- bia. She was the widow of C. C. Magruder, one of the most eminent lawyers who practiced in recent years at the bar of southern Maryland. Mrs. Magruder was the eldest davghter of the late Thomas Turner of Georgetown, D. C., who held for a long time an important position on the Chesapeake’ and Ohio canal. Through her mother Mrs. Magruder was closely related to the Pratts, Tylers and Wests, and a descendant of the Harrison and Contee families. She was highly educated and ac- complished, and a_ brilliant social future appeared to be before her, when, by the sudden death of her father when she was but twenty years of age, all was chan: With rare unselfishness and steadfastn of purpose, she devoted herself to the little children he left, doubly orphaned, for their mother had died a short time before. In this duty she never faltered, and not until were men and women did she think of ‘lf and consult her own happiness. In h§ she became the wife of the late C. C. Magruder of Prince George's county, one of the wealthiest citizens of Maryland. In ISS, after a short illness, died, and his widow since spent most of her time visiting relative For several years she had been a great suf- terer from rheumatism, but sh2 never mur- mured, and even when she became totally helpless made no complaint. Poler of Holly avenue is at Niag- ara Falls, where she was summoned to the bedside of her brother, who is seriously ill. The time of her return is Indefinite. A meeting of the Aitar Chapter of Trinity P. E. Church will be held today at Mrs. Mor- rison’s, on Chestnut avenye, for the purpose of making final arrangements, assignment of tables, etc., for the bazaar, to be held in Takoma Hall, Easter Tuesday. Mr. P. R. Cunningham, who recently ac- quired the ownership of the beautiful Flower tract, on Sligo, is having plans prepared for a residence for his family, of a style similar to the White House, and as nearly as possi- ble resembling that structure. The site se- lected is the one upon which Dr. Flower had expected to erect a sanitaricm. The services during holy week in Trinity Church will be held Tuesday and Wednes- day at 5 p.m., Thursday the holy communion service at 10 a.m., and at the same hour Friday the usual Good Friday services. The Young People’s Society of Christian Endeavor held their weekly prayer meeting Sunday in the chapel, with Miss Laura Skin- ner leading. Topic: “Things That Keep Us From God.” Mr. H. Waters of Maple avenue and Miss Sarah Waters of Magnolia avenue, re- cent victims of the grip, are convalescing. The members of “Ye Distreek Skule’ who will take part in the entertainment to be g:ven in Kensington tonight for the benefit of the Presbyterian Church are Major D. Lang by their many friends in this vicinity to the celebration, on Easter Monday, at their new home tn Wil- mington, Del., of the tenth anniversary of their marriage. Mr. Geo. H. Bailey of Carroll avenue has returned from an enjoyable visit of two weeks in Boston. The Methodist Society did not hold their usual weekly meeting last night, owing to failure to announce same. A house-to-house visitation was made by some of the faithful in an effort to locate the meeting. Se eee WHEATON The conclusion arrived at by the republi- can county commiitee of Montgomery at its meeting in Rockville Satur- day, to hold but one set of primaries for electicn of delegates to the county, district and state conventions this year, seems to have given pretty general satisfaction. Saturday, April 11, is fixed for the pri- maries in the several districts of the coun- ty, waich will be followed by the county convention at Rockville, on the 15th, the district convention at Hagerstown, on the 15th (for the election of delegates to the national convention at St. Louis in May), the state convention at Baltimore, on the 22d, and the congressional district conven- tion at Oakland, September 9. The Wheaton Base Ball Club held a meeting Wednesday evening, the 25th in- stant, and elected Herbert Cissel manager and captain for the coming season. All the members of the team were present, and the funds derived from the “benefit” given last winter will be expended in parapher- nalia for the club. A prosperous season is expected and arrangements are being made with other clubs in Montgomery county tor games during the coming summer. Several improvements in business lines have recently been constructed at Silver Spring, among them being a large ware- house by Mr. W. E. Mannakee, a set of Fairbanks scales by Mr. D. F. Mason, and a lime house by Mr. Clarence Bennett. There is some talk by the young men in this locality of forming & bicycle club, to hold a series of meetings during the com- ing summer, when long rides could be taken. At the Baptist Mission on Sunday after- noon the recently established Sunday school was organized. The membership has in- creased to forty-eight. The public school is arranging for the due observance cf Arbor day. ————— BROOKLAND. “Woodreve,” Major and Mrs. Goodloe’s vretty suburban home on the Queen’s Chapel road, is being prepared for the coming of its owners, which will he shortly. Major and Mrs. Goodloe have been spend- ing the winter months in Washington, where their hquse has been the scene of many pleasant gatherings, ard now, with the opening of spring, they are ready to return to their villa. Crowe, the pastor, has in preparation a confirmation class, the different members of which he has been visiting for some time past.
