Anderson cf Germantown, Mont- gomery county, died at her home at that place last Wednesday, aged forty-five, of typhoid pneumonia. Her remains were in- terred in the Beallsville cemetery. Mrs. Eleanor Darby, widow of Jno. W. Darby, an estimable lady, died at her daugh- ter’s home near Barnesville, Montgomery county, Wednesday, aged seventy-eight. Seven children survive her. Mr. Geo. E. Beall of Cedar Grove, Md. while engaged in hauling logs a few days ago was very seriously and painfully hurt by a log rolling from the wagon on him, breaking ten of his ribs. —————— BRIGHTWOOD. The local society of King’s Daughters gate a bazaar and entertainment Friday night in the hall of the Brightwood school and the spacious basement. A short play was given, with some recitatlons and vocal music. The basement was illuminated with Japanese lanterns and tastefully decorated with flags and bunting. Among those who assisted in the arrangement of the affair were: Mrs. J. Middleton, Mrs, Jane MacElwee, Mrs. Ship- ley, Mrs.John Keene, Mrs. Rover and Misses Anna MacElwee, Anna Nalley, Mae Cissel, Miss Clark, Misses Rhoda Thomas and Ella Keene. The occasion proved a great success both financially and socially. Owlng to the stormy weather, the regular Christian Endeavor meeting was postponed. Mr. John L. Norris, jr., will conduct the next mesting. First Ileut. J. Hamilton Stone, assistant surgeon, U. 5. A., left yesterday for Chi- cago. After spending a few days there he will proceed to his new post, Fort Leaven- worth, Kan., where he has been assigned to medical duty. A committee of the Brightwood Avenue Citizens’ Association, consisting of Mr. W. V. Cox, Claude F. King, Dr. CG. G. Stone, Austin P. Brown and E. T. Bates, held a meeting at the residence of Dr.:Stone last evening to consider the amendment to the sewer bill? Miss Murphy {s quite sick at her home in Brightwood Park. Mr. W. W. Ritchie of Virginia has been the guest of Mr. Louis P. Shoemaker. a FALLS CHURCH. A business meeting of the Christian En- deavor Society was held at the home of Miss Edith O. Merrifield Saturday night. Miss Stella Birch and Miss Bertha Payne were elected to active membership. A “hard times” sociable was arranged for to take place in the Baptist Church next Sat- urday night, which promises to be a unique affair. It was voted to visit the Balston society April 3, and committees were ap- pointed to make all necessary arrange- ments. The president was appointed to confer with the Ministers’ Association in regard to exercises for the monthly union services under the auspices of the society. Interesting reports were received from the following committees: Sunshine, mission- ary, Sunday school, prayer meeting and musie. The treasurer also submitted his monthly report. The president, with Miss Maud Rathbun and Miss Lillie Porter, was appointed a committee to draft suitable resolutions on the death of Mr. Fred M. Kerr, an active member of the society. ‘There was an enjoyable dance given by the young people of the town at the resi- dence of Mrs. Flagg Friday night, at which the following were present: Misses Claudle Curtis, Eva Birch, Susie Crossman, Blanche Brunner, Mattie Byrnes, Aida Boernstein, Bertha Capner, Cortine and Edith DePut- ron and Mildred Searle of Washington, ana Messrs.
