THE EVENING STAR, THURSDAY, MAROH 5, 1896-TWELVE PAGES, SUBURBAN NEWS ANACOSTIA. William Sheets, whose home was in Bal- timore, and who had been employed as a brakemen on the Baltimore and Potomac railroad less than on= week, was instanily killed in the Anacostia yards of the com- pany last night about 9 o'clock while as- sisting in making up a train of cars with Lewis Bowman and Lewis Wood. The men were standing on a car and were thrown off by a sharp push of the engine. Sheets feli on the track and was run over by the car. His body was cut in half. Bowman was thrown to one side and had his head hurt slightly, while Wood escaped injury. The remains of Sheets were taken to l.:e’s undertaking establishment in Washington, to be prepared for burial, and his parents were notified. Sheets home in Washington was with his brother, at Ne. 202 M street southeast. The coroner has been notified. The reorganized Anacostia Citizens’ As- sociation will micet tonight at Haines’ Hall for the election of permanent officers and the adoption of a constitution and by-laws. Mrs. Domie A. Whittington, widow of Martin V. Whittington, died yesterday at her home, on the Morris road. Her funeral will take place tomorrow, and the interment will be made in the ceme- tery at Broad Creek, Md. There were renewed disturbances at Madrid yesterday and demonstrations of popular anger against the United States government. The students of the univer- sity seem to have been the offenders or the leaders in the demonstration. They assembled before the Madrid Uni- versity and there publicly burned an Amer- ican flag. The police dispersed the meet- ing, after making several syrests. As a result the cabinet council last night decided to temporarily close the universi- ties.
