Drs. G. B. Fade- ly, T. C. Quick and A. W. Boswell were appointed a committee to draft letters to the representatives in the legislature fa- vorabls to the request. Dr. Siaughter stated that there were a number of physicians in the county practicing without a license and without having been examined by the state medical board, and it was voted that the secretary call the attention of all such to the law on the subject. Dr. Slaughter is a member of the state examining board. On the invitation of Dr. L. E. Gott, the so- ciety will meet at his residence in May rext, and in August in Alexandria, by in- vitation of Dr. Slaughter. Drs. F. M. Brooks, E. L. Detwiler, A. W. Boswell and A. GIBBON DEAD. He Succumbed to Pneumonia, Which Attacked Him Sunday Night. Gen. John Gibbon died at his home in Baltimore last night at the age of sixty- eight. His death was caused b} pneumonia, which attacked him Sunday night, just as he was about to start for Milwaukee to at- tend a reunion of the Loyal Legion. His wife, formerly Miss Moale of Bakimore, a son and a daughter survive him. He was on the retired list of the United States army, with the rani of brigadier general. Gen. Gibbon was born near Holmesburg, | Pa., in 1827, and graduated at West Point twenty years later, served in the Mexican war and acted as instructor. of artillery at West Point until the beginning of the re- bellion. After serving as chief of artillery on McDowell's staff, he was made brevet brigadier general,and later breyetted major general. After the civil war he remained in the service, and in 1877. commanded the Yellowstone expedition against Sitting Bull, and a year later another against the Nez Perces. In 1885 he had charge of the troops engaged in suppressing the anti- Chinese riots in Washington territory. He Was the author of several military works, including “The Artillerists’ Manual” and ‘Our Indian Question. Notable Deaths Abroad. Henry Leslie, the English musical com- poser, is dead. Marius, the actor, is dead. Gen. Sir Charles Patton, Keyes, G. C. B., is dead.
