10 THE EVENING STAR, ee DECEMBER 19, 1895-TWELVE PAGES. Open Tonight till 9 and every night until Xmas. 100 miniature Bradbury Up- right Grand Pianos given away tomorrow — Friday —tell the children. Manufac-= turer’s Reduction Sale of Pianos. Every. instrument reduced be- tween now and Xmas. Never before in the history of our business have we been so well stocked with fine new pianos. Carload after carload of the new-style Bradbury Up- right Grands have been arriving each day from our four immense factorie Beautiful New Bradbury Up- rights (this year’s designs), with the new patent full swinging desk and Boston fall board, handsomely decorated — with quaint old colonial hand carv- ing, in all woods. You have a chance this year to buy vour Christmas piano di- rect from the manufacturers, and you ought to do it. Be- cause we make our own pianos. Because we are compelled to stand by them. Because if you come to complain about them we can’t tell you that we are only the agents and somebody else way up north or out west is the manufacturer and respon- sible for the piano. Those are strong points, but they are only a few of the many advantages of buying a piano direct from the manufacturers. We, the manufacturers, sell to YOU, the SUMER. We, as manu- , can sell you a piano easier than any agent, because we own the piano and can wait for our money. You can have your choice of this immense stock of pianos on any terms you wish—all cash—part cash— or $10 monthly installments. Bradbury Factory Warerooms, 1225 Pa. Ave. BORN G. PILLSBURY LOSES A GAME A meeting of the members of the Ath- letic Association of Columbian University was held yesterday to discuss the pros- pects of a game for Christmas day for the foot ball team. After some discussion the offer of the University of Virginia team to play the local 'Varsity team that day was accepted, and arrangements made for the game. This will take place at 3 o'clock in the afternoon at Capitol Park. Who the officials will be has not been decided. The personnel of the team will be a good deal changed from that of Thanksgiving day. While that team made a fine and some- what unexpected showing against the Co- lumbia Athletic Club, it is expected that the changes made will result in strengthen- ing the University considerably. In the first place, quarter back, where the Uni- versity was weak until Mills got into the game, is to have a man who is one of the best quarters in the city, T. A. Aiton, who captained and played that position for the crack Orients this season, and in the same capacity on the champion Eastern High School team of 1892. Another Orient and former Bastern High School player who is likeiy to make his ap- pearanc on the "Varsity eleven is Avis, the right half of the Orients of this year. Both Aiton and Avis are students of the law department of Columbian. The latter, however, is not so sure of his position, as Donald MacDonald, a good runner, is t ing for the position along with Beard, who played in that place in the November gai Cockrille ts, of course, the other bi the captain, and Weaver the full back. In the line, also, there are to be 5 changes. Eddy Mills, a former s of the Central High School, ts booked for one end, and Carroil, Fugitt and ris for the other, with the odds on the former. Gambrill, regular, Shuster, one of the guards, and Doolittle and Clapp are trying for tackles, with the chances on the two former. For guards there are Busey, Cummings, Cook and Johnson, all heavy men. iusey played Than’ ‘iving day in the ranks of the winged arrow people, and Cummings played in 2 similar position on the oppos: ing side, but both are now likely to be found as the guards on one side. The men trying for center are Johnson of the me‘ cal school and Harlan of the college. John- son played last time. Capt. Penton of the University of Vir- ginia is not able to announce his line up just now, but is counting on having eight of this year's regular players and the other three places filled by three good subs. This will about even matters up, so that a contest may be expected all around. another of the Virginia star is also to be on hand. Offered for Pr: the F Bane An agent of the St. Louis club yesterday made the Philadetphia ball club an offer of $30,000 for Pitchers Taylor and Carse Catcher Clements and Outfielders Dela- hanty and Thompson. The offer was m to Secretary William Shettsline. The ter was so astonished that he almost f in a faint. “Why don't you buy the whole club?" he finally ejaculated. “We will; only set your price, and we ‘will send you Chris Von der Ahe’s certified check for the amount,” was the reply of the St. Louis representative. “Well, we might just as well sell the club as these five met said Mr. Shettsline, “for they are a whole team in them: 2 “That is the reason we want them, plied the St. Louis man. Then Secretary Shetisline made a coun- ter proposition, He wanted Pitcher Breit- enstein and Left Fielder Cooley, and he suggested that a trade might be made. But cre trade would not go,. because Mr. 8 J vd that either I nstein er Cooley mat be part of the considera- tion, and the St. Louis representative would not listen to it. Further developments may be looked for. Pillsbury Beaten by Steinitz. The third series of games, which com- pleted the first round of the international re- chess aournament at St. Petersbu: was played Tuesday afternoon and finished in the early hours yesterday morning, when Lasker (black) beat in an Evans’ gambit, after moves, and Steinitz (white) be in a Petroff defense, after s The score up to date lost 1; Pillsbury ‘on 2, los! igorin won 1 1; Steinitz won 1, lost 2. titer for Cup The London Globe says that it is rumored that the Hendersons of Glasgow received an order today for a yacht, designed by George L.
