The bride was dressed in a handsome traveling suit of brown cloth with velvet trimming, and carried a bunch of La France roses. Returns From Throughont the Storm- Beaten District. Returns from the storm of Tuesday night show that it did a vast amount of damage in other parts of the country as well as in Chicago and vicinity. Houses were blown down and unroofed by the gale at Cleve- land, Ohio; in Covington, Ky., and at many other points in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Michigan. The aera of the storm was unusually widespread, and it made itself felt over nearly half the country. In Findlay and Lima, Ohio, the towering oil derricks preved shining marks for the malice of the wind. A thousand derricks were blown down in the Findlay district, causing a loss of $70,000, while the farm houses, outbulld- ings and fences in the surrounding country were damaged to the amount of $30,000. At Lima 300 derricks were demolished, causing a loss of $21,000, while probably a thousand more derricks were torn down in other sections of the oil fields.” In Hartford City, Ind., 5) derricks were laid low, the total loss reaching $100,000. At Elmwood, Ind., the force of the storm Was especially severe, several buildings of the Pittsburg plate glass works being de- molished and two men injured. The loss is 0, and the works will have to be closed for three or four weeks. Other plants, including the McClay lamp chimney factory, and McBeth & Co. lamp chimney works were badly damaged. The Standard Oil Company loses $150,000 by the destruction of 1,000 derricks and other property at Bowling Green, Ohio. Severai building blocks in Fort Wayne, Ind., lost their roofs, and a baby carriage, fortunately unoccupied, was carried three blocks by the wind. -—ee——____ FRIENDS OF CUBA. Resolutions Adopted by a Mass Meet- e ing of New Yorkers. 7 The memory of Jose Marti, the Cuban patriot and leader, was honored at the ™mass meeting in Cooper Union, New York, ‘Tuesday night, and his example lauded. But more, the- sympathy of the big audi- ence, with those who are struggling for Cu- ben autonomy, was enthusiastically ex- pressed, while the speakers declared this country should recognize the revolutionists as belligerents. Although the rain fell in almost a deluge, the hall was crowded before 8 o'clock, and after that hour men stood, dripping wall flowers, in the aisles. Congressman William Sulzer, Rev. Dr. Thos. Dixon, jr.; Rev. Father Ducey, John E. Milhoiland and Samuel Gompers spoke in favor of recognizing the Cubans, and the following resolution was unanimously adopted: Resolved, That ,we extend our sympathy to the Cuban people in their struggle for freedom and independence, and we call on Cengress and the President of the United States and request them to grant belliger- ent rights to the Cuban people. Senator Chandler said in a letter from Washington: “I hope it may be found wise and expedient to recognize Cuban belliger- ency. I wish also that it may be found ju- diclous for the United States to recognize and maintain by national power the inde- pendence of Cuba.” AGAIN CONVICTED. BALFOUR The Former M. .
