He Was in Constant Dread of Ni- hitistic Plots. Sought Relief in Stimulants, Tonics and Nerve Nutriment.- Alexander, the late czar of Russia, no doubt furnishes one of the most striking examples in modern history of that trite saying, “Uneasy rests the head that wears a crown.” His whole life was a succession of per- sonal alarms, secret connivings, nihi- listic plots and nihilistic attempts at assassination. Small wonder then if he sought relief in medicine, and as a health restoring tonic for shattered nerves and haunted mind demanded stimulants. In saying this, let it be understood that the late czar was in no sense an inebriate. The stimu- lants which he sought were rather in the nature of a nerve builder, rather than a nerve destroyer, and though he tried one remedy after another it was years before he secured the right one. As a result of that discovery Alex- ander caused the following telegram to be sent to the branch house of JOHANN HOFF at St. Petersburg: “Send immediately one case of JO- HANN HOFF’S MALT EX- TRACT to Sarskoje, Celo, by order of the czar. Count von Schuwaloff.” The GENUINE JOHANN HOFF’S MALT EXTRACT is a true builder of the flesh and blood. Having driven about nalf a mile, which brought him near the dwelling of Mr. Mayer, he told the driver to stop and turn arcund, while he was gone after a friend who was going with him. In a short time he ap- peared with a young lady, the daughter of Mr. Mayer, and after being seated told the driver to drive to Seneca, on the Potomac, where they arrived about 5 o'clock, and went on the ferry boat, which took them across to the Maryland shore, where a team was, he said, in waiting to take them to the place where they were to be married, which event he thought would take place by 8 o'clock that morning. ———— AUCTION SALES OF REAL ESTATE, &c Today.
