Arrest of a Chicago Window Cleaner Who Sought Mr. Pallman’s Life. The life of Geo. M. Pullman and that of John B. Griffin, the manager of the Pullman building in Chicago were menaced by an insane man last night. The delay of the maniac in maiing up his mind who should be the first victim gave the police time to ar- rest him. The prisoner is William Sherman, who h been employed as a window cleaner around the Pullman building. At 5 o'clock last night word was brought Griffin that Sherman was go- pout the building making threats to Kill him and Mr.Vuliman, e, and two off time, Grittin sent word to ers, after searching found him in the freight els esitation in declaring that he int kill either Mr. Puliman or Griffin or both, aid that during the afternoon he had a fortune teller, because he was 2 leep. The woman told him that he was troubled by t enemies, and that unless he killed them befo ovember 17 or 27, they would hk him ribed the men to him, the desc 3 Were those of Mr. Pull- muin and Mr. Griffin. Sherman said that he would killed one of the n the afternoon if he could have made is nind which to take first. The man, paty ne, was removed to the Deten- tion Hospital. terday Reed Stevenson, fifteen years old, | and Charles Henderson, who 1s one year his senior, appeared in court for the rob- bery. They admitted their guilt and sald that Kelly was innocent. Stevenson put up the job. He ran along near the herdic and attracted the driver's attention, while Hen- derson grabbed the cash box and ran. They sot about $9 from the box and spent most of it for pies, cakes und candy, and bought a small amount of clothing. Policeman Vermillion arrested Kelly and Henderson, while Stevenson surrendered to the station last evening. 2 Judge Miller questioned the boys and re- manded them until tomorrow, when Kelly will again be questioned. aes The A. P. A. Controversy. To the Editor of The Evening Star: Inclosed is a copy of the constitution of the Supreme Council of the A. P. A. of the Werld. Chas2 Roys says Dr. Easton was never legally elected as a delegate to the Supreme Council at Milwaukee. Article 2, section 2, says who shall constitute the Su- preme Council. By that section it is pro- vided that the Supreme Council shall in- clude in its membership “one delegate from each subordinate ceuncil in the states, ter- ritories, provinces or countries in which no Superior Council has been formed.” There are 2,500 or 4,000 members of the order in this town, and the vast majority love honor and honesty. Why did Traynor send credentials for seventeen men to sit on the floor of the Supreme Council, and after- ward, when he found that this District would have more representatives than he would like them to have, ask Col. Sellers for a construction of the constitution, which was given, thus: “The District is neither a state, territory or a province; in fact, it is only ten miles square, and is not entitled to any- thing?” This is about the sum and substance of the construction of the constitution given by Sellers. Traynor finally decided to allow thé District two delegates, and, after the seventeen councils of this District had re- ceived credentials signed by himself and Beatty, also instructing them to have them forwarded so as to have them in the hand of the commitiee in due time. He then turns around and calls for a meeting, to be held in G. A. R. Hall, Pennsylvania avenue, mind you, after most of the councils in the District had held their regular weekly mect- ings. There were four men at this meeting: in fact. it was held on the curbstone, the hall being closed. There were two colored and two white men, and they elected two of them, one white and a tion on the road to Mil- waukee, by some hook or crook, when the eleven men arrived in the hall where the ecnvention was held. They beheld the col- ored friend as sentinel (one of the four who held the curbstone meeting), and he was otdered by Traynor to refuse admission to the delegation, which he did. The younger councils did not nd delegates, from lack of funds, only eleven going—and the curb- stone crowd. Finally, ter eight hours’ de- bate, the eleven delexates were admitted and entitled to all the privileges. Then Traynor accuses them of bringing repubhi- can mone th them to defeat his election, and when D on demanded him to name the men, he said that he did not mean it; he only inferred it. WM. C.
