Stevenson, pastor of the Ana-| gruder and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Rog: BUILDING I (OT ON # BETWEEN NINTH AND DING, de. Ur EN costia Baptist Church, where evangelistic services are to begin tonight, told a Star reperter that he thinks Anacostia is on tne eve of the greatest revival of religion that has ever visited the place. Rev. Charles F. Stanley, pastor of the Willis Memorial Baptist Church at Lan- sirgburgh, N. Y., who Mr. Stevenson has se- cured to conduct meetings nightly for the ensuing two weeks, is said to be one of the mest successful revivalists in the north, anil bis services are in such constant demand throughout the state of New York and Can- ada that it was only after much difficulty and a trip by Mr. Stevenson to Lansingburgh that Mr. Stanley's church would consent to his coming to Anacostia to hold two weeks’ services. The congregation of the Anacostia Church have been preparing for Mr. Stanley’s meet- ings for more than a week, and have held four cottage prayer meetings at as many different houses each night, while yesterday Mr. Stevenson preached two sermons, each of which had special reference to the sup- posed coming awakening of the unconverted in Anacostia and vicinity. The new Baptist Church at East Wash- ington Heights, of ich Rev. George E. Sievenson is pastor, will, it is expected, Le dedicated in about a month. The Campbell Memorial Baptist Church at Fort Foote, Md., which is to be under the charge of Rev. Mr. Stevenson of Anacostia, is rapidly approaching completion, and will, it is thought, be ready for use before very severe weather sets in. Mr. and Mrs. Charles R. Burr have ze- turned from a trip to Pennsylvania. No word has been received recently in Anacostia from Rev. and Mrs. Davenport, who went to Scotland to see to the proper interment of their son, Dana, and it is not known whether or not they have left Europe on their way back to this country. In the meantime, services at Emmanuel P. E. Church, of which Mr. Davenport is rector, are held each Sunday morning by Rev. Mr. McKee of St. Matthew's Mission in South- * east Washington and in the afternoon a men’s Bible class is conducted by Mr. Barna- bas Bryan. Mr. Fred. L. Harries, who last week took charge of the manual training department of the public school at Hillsdale, has airealy met with much success. Mr. Harries also has the direction of a similar department in ‘he school at Mt. Pleasant. es BROOKLAND. The Church of Our Savior has again changed the hour of its evening services to 7 o'clock. A new organist has been se- cured, Miss Gertrud Hood of Washing- ton, who took her place yesterday. Mrs. Jere Johnson, the former organist, has always been satisfactory, but since her re- Iroval to the city the work of coming to and fro has been very inconvenient for her. Miss Wood, it is thought, will ably fill her position. The Baptist Young People’s Union had a very pleasant meeting last night, and any interesting remarks were inade. Miss Mary Burr of 12th street has as her guest Miss E. M. De Jarnett of Virginia, who will remain with her for some time. Miss Blanche Gudgin ably led the Ep- worth League of the M. EB. Church last evening. Next Sunday Mr. J. S. Barker, first ‘vice president of the District League, will conduct the meeting. Yesterday was the first communion Sun- day in the Methodist Episcopal’s new church. The church was prettily dec- orated for this occasion, and the services were conducted by Rev. Wm. H. Chap- man. Brookland Lodge, I. O. O. F., No. 25, will hold its weekly meeting tonight in the tewn hall. The mansard roof on Col. Juan Lewis’ house on 12th street Is completed, and from this high elevation one has a view of about twenty miles of the surrounding country. ‘Thursday evening the Daughters of the Cross cf the Church of Our Savior will give a “carnival of the season” in the town hall, which will be quite a unique af- fair. Among the ladies who will partici- pate are Miss Elsie Snyder, Miss Jean Dalglishe, M'ss Lottie Filmore, Mrs. Guy Camp, Miss Mary Burr, Miss Sidney Small, Miss N. Small and Mrs. Jere Johnson. ——-— ROCKVILLE. Charles W. Prettyman and Edward C. Peter, as trustees, Saturday sold at pub- lic auction to James N.
