Local Notes of Interest From Across e Rock Creek. Plans for the Boston trip of the Knights Templar here are nearing maturity. About seventy-five will represent Potomac Com- mandery, No. 8. The organization will take along its own band—the Fort Myer musicians. The “Potomac Commandery March,” composed in compliment to the knights by Mrs. A. B. Bennett of this place, organist at the Presbyterlan Church and composer of the “Western High School March,” will be the leading band selection carried along. It promises to catch the public ear readily. Potomac Commandery. The Potomac Commandery officers have fixed upon July 25 as the date of their big Glen Echo outing for themselves and friends. A committee of seventy-five will be appointed to work for the success of the affair. All the Chautauqua buildings and grounds have been given the knights for the occasion by the Messrs. Baltzley. As the support of most all the District commanderies will be individually given the picnic will probably be the largest ever held in this section. A feature of the day will be a cavalry drill by the Fort Myer men. The post band will also be in attendance. Were Married. Some discontent is being aroused here over the failure of some of the merchants to make good their agreement to close at 7 o'clock. Unless the movement becomes general there is a probability that the clerks will ali be compelled to keep their long hours. ‘The exercises attending the closing of the Georgetown College preparatory depart- ment will be held next Monday evening at the college. The exercises of the main school will be held on Tuesday morning. Gaston Hall will be the scene of both af- fairs, the idea of holding them in the open air not having materialized, Mr. Fred Stitt is home from Dickinson College, where he received on commence- ment day graduation honors. This is the third victim of the do; —_—_—.——_ THE MORA CLAIM. It May Be Considered by an Inter- national Commission. It is regarded as not improbable that the United States may accept Spain’s propos{- tion for the appointment of an internation- al commission for the consideration of the Mcra claim and numerous other claimg pending between the two countries for many years. Up to this time the United States has insisted on the settlement of the Mora claim without regard to counter- claims against the United States, and if the government has abandcned this conten- tion it may be regarded as a diplomatig victory for Spain. The consideration of the Mora claim has brought up several others, and the situation is about the same as that at the time the United States an Great Britain settled their conflictin claims by the Alabama commission, and France and this country came to an accord by the commission of 1881. At poeant the United States is urging the Mora claim, while Spain has as an offset the clal, for the invasion of Florida when jt was Spanish colony and for damages to Spans ish ships during the civil war.
