10 THE EVENING STAR, THURSDAY, JUNE 6, 1895-TWELVE PAGES. BRADLEY FOR GOVERNOR, Nemination and Pintform of Ken- tucky Republicans. After The Star's report of the Kentucky republican convention closed yesterday the committee on resolutions were unable to report, and favorites were again called out for speeches until 9 p.m., when the plat- form was unanimously adopted. The platform was in substance as follows: “The republicans of Kentucky, while recognizing in the approaching contest the Sreat importance of state matters, never- theless appreciate the fact that parties exist nationally and that no political party should be affected or ashamed to give full and explicit explanation regarding its po- sition on every question affecting the pros- berity of state and nation. “he apprehension of business interests as to recent threatened tariff changes und the want of confidence in democratic ran- agement caused reduction in wages, de- cline in exportations, general depression of business, destruction of property, shrink- age in values aud labor agitation. This ap- Prehension, accompanied with subsequent democratic legislation made by ‘party per- fidy and dishonor,’ has served in many re- Spects to increase rather than diminish national disaster. Under these circum- stances the currency question has been forced into undue prominence, and the democrati= party has seized upon that issue, to the exclusion of all others, tor the pur- Pose of diverting public attention from the Contemplation of the ruin its vicious poli- cen aa miserable mismanagement has “We are opposed to the free enlim- {ted coinage of silver, believing thacnit Would involve the country in financial ruin. We believe in a sound currency, and in the vse of both gold and silver for coinage Provided always that a dollar in one is a ncipa y the otha pally as valuable as a dollar in “We favor a tariff so regulated 6 pro- tect the interests of all classes of our cite zens upon articles that may be success- fully manufactured or produced in this country, thus Insurirg good wages to the laborer and a home market to the pro- ducer; and in connection with this we favor the re-estallishment of the doctrine of reciprocity. We believe that such a sys- tem will defray every governmental ex- pense, gradually liquidate all indebtedness, restore public confidence and relegate to the rear the undue excitement now pre- vailing concerning the currency. In view of the past financial history of the demo- cratic party, its devotion to the old state bank system and wild cat tendencies, we affirm that the republican party can be more safely trusted to regulate the finan- cial system of the nation. “We favor an American policy which will protect Americans and American interests in any part of the world at all hazards, and will sympathize with strongly republican rather than ignorant monarchies.” State Chairman Yerkes presented the name of Col. W. 0. Bradley for the nomi- nation for governor. The nomination was made by acclamation, with continued dem- onstrations, till Col. Bradley was escorted to the platform. After thanking the convention and ac- cepting the nomination for ‘governor, Col. Bradley reviewed recent changes in’ Ken- tucky, especially the result of the election last November. His indictment of the national admin- istration was very severe. For almost an hour he denounced the democratic man- agement of state affairs in Kentucky. ——_+e+___ Shut Ont of the Mails.
