Decoraticn day was befittingly observed in this city yesterday, under the auspices of Davis Post, No. 46, G. A. R., and the occasion was a gala one. From early morning until late in the afternoon the National cemetery was thronged with visitors, many of whom were strangers. The ceremonies began at 2 o’clock, when Davis Post. headed by the Friendship Drum Corps, escorted a detachment of the Legion of Loyal Women and Union Veteran Legion from Washington to the cemetery. On arrival at the cemetery the bugle was sounded, and the assemblage was called to crder by Commander Reinacker of Davis Post. The hymn “Old Hundred” was ren- dered by the choir, and Rev. C. E. Ball cffered up prayer, which was followed by the singing of the hymn, “Nearer, My God, to Thee.” Rev. W. H. McAllister, rector of Trinity M. E. Church, was then introduced as the orator of the day, and his address Was an eloquent effect, as he paid glowing tributes to the dead on both sides. His Speech was listened to with rapt attention throughout, and at its conclusion was greeted with round after round “ef ap- plause. Comrade C. E. Troutman was then ‘introduced, and delivered an interesting address. He was followed by Mrs. A. O. well, past president of the Legion of Loyal Women. At the conclusion of her remarks the decoration of graves began, while the choir rendered in a beautiful manner the well-known hymn, “Cover Them Over.” On each grave beautiful flowers were strewn and a miniature “Old Glory” planted. The benediction was pronounced by Rev. C. E. Ball, and taps were sounded on the bugle. Later in the afternoon the Alexandria Light Infantry, fifty strong, wearing their regulation uniforms of blue, under com- mand of Captain George A. Mushbach, marched to the cemetery and fired a salute over the graves. The floral offerings were never prettier, end conspicuous among them was a hand- some piece from the Ladies’, Auxiliary of R. E. Lee Camp, Confederfte Veterans, and one from W. H.-Bacon, an ex-confed- erate soldier. 2 : A Rich Haul. The police are looking for a man named Boystein, who is charged with grand lar- ceny, amounting to $275 in jewelry, by. Annie Brantman, who keeps a house of ill-fame on Lee street. Boystein has been spending considerable time at the Brant- man woman's house, and yesterday left the house suddenly. Soon after he disappeared the waman reported to the police the loss of a gold watch and chain, three gold rings, a@ watch guard, a lady’s necklace and a pair of gold bracelets and some minor P.cces, and charged Boystein with having stolen the same. It is understood that Boystein has gone to Washington, and the pelice of that city have been requested to ‘cok out for him and arrest him if found. Assaulted the Boy. Yesterday afternoon a number of small boys were playing ball on a lot near the corner of Franklin and Fairfax streets and they got one of their number, a boy named Paul Underwood, to go to the pump for a bucket of water. While the boy was returning with the water a man named James Quaid stopped him and asked for the water. Upon being refused he kicked and slapped the boy and took the water away from him, and when he had finished drinking upset it. He was arrested and fined $5 for the offense. —_—.__ 4FFAIRS IN GEORGETOWN. Geo. Been Elected. A successor, to Rev. Geo. Howell, the rector of Grace ®. E.
