Dorsey, two ‘> boys, aged about fourteen years,were brought here Saturday and taken before Justice Morgan charged with having com- mitted a felonious assault on Sarah Wash- 1, a colored girl of ten years. These were arrested at the instance of the of the girl, who state that Thurs- last, while the girl was riding in a t with the two boys about two miles from this place, she was assaulted by the QP one of them holding her and stifling her cries while the other accomplished his purpose, claiming that this was repeated seve tines by both of them. The parties al! live in a negro settlement about three miles from this place, called “Scotland.” The girl was brovght here Saturday by her mother and examined by a physician, who ounces her injuries serious, she being reely able to walk. Messrs. Thomas Anderson, H. Maurice Talbott, Philip D. Laird, W. Veirs Bouic, jr., Charles W. Prettyman and Robert B. Peter have filed in the office of the clerk of the circuit court articles of incorpora- tion of the “Bar Association of Mont- gomery county, Md.” The object of the assoviation, as stated, is to maintain the honor and dignity of the profession of the law, and increase its usefulness in promot- ing the due administration of justice; the mutual improvement and_ social inter- course of its members, and to acquire and maintain a Jaw library for the use of the members of the association. The term of the organization is limited to forty years, has no capital stock and will be maintain- ed by the monthly dues of the members. Mr. Thomas Braddock, an old and well- krown citizen of this place, was Sunday morning found lifeless in his bed at his place of residence, about one mile from town. He was in the seventy-ninth year of his age, and had for some time been in feeble health. M. Dewey of this place, who has been absent since last December on busi- ness for the department of labor, making investigations as to the displacement of hand labor by machinery in New York state, has returned, and is now on duty at the department in Washington. Mrs. Dewey, who has been spending several weeks with relatives and friends in Bing- hamton ana Syracuse, N. Y., returned here with her husband. Mrs. E. A. Berry, wife of Superintendent Berry of the St. Barnabas’ Mission Sunday school, met with a serious and well-nigh fatal accident last Friday, falling down a long flight of stairs and receiving injuries which will confine her to her bed for sey~ eral weeks. Mr. B. F. Edwards of Emporia street has recovered from his recent attack of malaria sufficiently to admit of his return to duty in the Treasury Department. Mr. I. J. The test of the Howe combined chemical and water engine, with its hook and ladder truck (the latter 400 feet in length) and hose reel, announced In The Star to occur Friday between the hours of 5 and 7, to de- termine its acceptance by the council, was successful beyond the wildest expectation, and created an amount of excitement and enthusiasm unequaled since the fire of December, 1893. Three councilmen are to be elected by the voters of theftown. One tick- et bears the names of W. H. Nowlan and J. H. Wells and the other those of, L. C. Young and G. W. Poole, while the name of J. C. DePutron is on both. Considerable interest 1s being manifested by the friends of the respective candidates, and the con- test Is likely to be close. The District Lodge of Good Templars met at Vienna today with delegates present from most of the lodges in the district. Public exercises will take place tonight in the town hall. Mr. Joseph Cleverton and wife of Ohio are visiting friends. Mr. Cleverton was a resident of the town for several years and superintendent at one time of the M. E. Church Sunday school. There was no quorum present at the meeting of the Falls Church and Potomac Railroad Company at the Eagle House last night, and the meeting was adjourned two weeks.
