As the beautiful spring approaches nearly every day letters come from northern friends asking if I can and will send them something nice to plant from ‘this land of flowers, I will try to answer, naming only those varieties which I think will do well Lorth, The Spanish dagger is one of the hand- scmest plants of the south; it is a great branchless plant, some five feet high, sur> rounded by corn-like leaves from the ground to the top, and crowned with one huge truss of creamy white bell-shaped flewers, as large around as a water pail, end fully two feet high. It would make a covering bush and briar with its fine lace- like foliage and lovely flowers. It always locks to me out of place. covering so many ursightly objects. But no flowering vine I ever saw can equal the brilliant beauty of the passion flower. The bloom is over the size of a silver dollar, clothed in a royal coat of purple and gold, while dame nature, rot satisfied with her w circles the flower with a deep lace-like fringe, which gives it an indescribable beauty. The passion flower is adapted for in or out of door culture, and is classed by flor- ists as hardy in the north.
