Mayor Strong of New York and the ma- Jority of the police board are not on good terms. The Chinese asked and were granted permission to explode some fire crackers in the streets, to drive away the evil spirits from the vicinity of the restaurant. At yesterday's meeting of the police board, Commissioner Kerwin brought up the incident as a violation of the ordi- nances that should be investigated, espe- cially as the officer on post had reported that he had been directed by Commissioner Andrews not to interfere. Commissioner Andrews desired to make the matter per- sonal to himself and voted affirmatively upon a motion for an investigation. Com- missioners Kerwin and Murray also votel aye. President Martin, democrat, was av- sent on accuunt of illness. SS The Allinnea Case Called Up.
