Church. ‘A new church enterprise will be inaugu- rated-in the northwest section of the city tomorrow. The Church of the Holy Cross, on Dupont Circle, which has been the starting point of more than one successful church organization, is now to become the temporary home of a new center of wor- ship. At the session of the Baltimore con- ference ofthe Methodist Episcopal Church, which closed two weeks ago, this charge was added to the assignment of Rev. Hugh Johnston, D.D., pastor of Metropolitan. On the first Sunday after conference Dr. Johnston in his sermon presented the ur- gent importance of this work and appealed to his people to lend a hand. His appeal elicited an unexpettedly prompt response from one of the young men of the church, who, moved by the spirit of the occasion, rose, after the sermon, and pledged the co- operation of the young people in this for- ward movement. Accordingly the little chapel east of the circle has been secured for a beginning, and Dr. Johnston will preach there tomorrow. The following Sabbath, April 7, it is proposed to effect a forma! organization, including the estab- lishment of a Sunday school and an Ep- worth League. It is expected that a num- ber of families resident in the immediate neighborhood will give this movement their hearty co-operation. _ Christian Endeavor Entertainment. . Odd Fellows’ Hall was filled last evening by an enthusiastic audience, which had as- sembled to see the entertainment given un- der the auspices of the Junior Christian Endeavor Society of the Eastern Presby- terian Church. The entertainment consist- ed of a series of living pictures, tableaux and songs and was called “The Tourna- ment of Idyl Court.” Many of the cos- tumes were striking and beautiful and the whole proved a very interesting and charm- ing event. Some of the special features were a cornet solo by Elphonzo Youngs, jr., @ recitation by Miss Abby Johnson, a vocal solo by Miss Fannie Cassavant, a recita- tion by Miss Marie Collins and songs by Messrs. Myers and Skerrett. Mrs. John Shedd was the director of the affair and the piano accompanist, while Miss Debbie Easton acted as manager of the tableaux and dialogues. Those taking part in the tableaux were Misses McCabe, Jameson, Ashley, McBride, Cooley, De Grange, Clum, Langley, Zimmerman, Bassett, Robinett, Buckingham, Easton, Doe, Morgan, Bos- trom, Russell, Gardner, Dobson, Hall, Mc- Kenzie, Smith and Miss Jane Smith, Messrs. Graham, Thompson, Jackson, Tilton, M. Thompson, Sanford, Clements, Eichelber- ger and Gardner. ———.__ Junior Epworth League. The Junior Epworth League, comprising seventeen chapters and 60) members, ten- dered a reception last evening in the Met- ropolitan M. E. Church to the presiding elder, the several pastors and the members of the senior league. Superintendent Leech acted as master of ceremonies, and a lengthy ard enjoyable program was ren- dered. Addresses re made by Rev. John N. Walsh, Rev. C. L. Pate, Master Watson Moffatt, Rev. L. B. Wilson, Rev. Robert M. Moore and Mr. W. B. Matthews, and reci- tations were delivered by Miss Lur.e Stan ford, Miss Eva King, Miss Mamie Berkeley, Master Raymond Otterback, Miss Bessie Pate, Miss Mabel Beard and Master Roland Johnston. Mrs.M.M.Mitchell was in charge of the music supplied during the evening, while the arrangements for the reception were in the hands of Miss M. M. Fitzhugh, Miss Clara Ober, Mrs. M. M.
