Mr. Colton, superintendent of the terra cotta works, was serenaded Christmas morning by the Terra Cotta Brass Band. 1 large audience assembied in the tow to attend the exercises of the M. trouble by the merit of the performance: The stage and decorations had been al tistically arranged by Mr. C. The choruses were the excellent selections, Hark, a Joyful Sound, Christ Is Born, All the World Is Wakin Chiming, Chiming, and The King Is BE in Bethiehem, and all were finely rendered. A recitation, “A Christmas Li and Helene Moore’ were loudly applauded for their qv of the evening as the class performances which have required so much careful train- ing from Mrs. C. H. Laird, who is wanted at Capetown, South Africa, for an alleged forgery there two years ago of checks for $600,000, was quietly arrested yesterday in Cincinnatl, in front of the Enquirer office, and at noon was on a Chesapeake and Ohio train, which will reach New York today. His arrest was made by Charles A. Vannalta of the William Pinkerton Detective Agency in Chicago, and United States Marshal J. B. Lostwick of New York. Marshal Bost- wick and some subordinates accompanied Lippert to New York. He agreed to go without a requisition. Detective Vannalta searched Lippert’s trunks and papers at his lodgings, 219 Race street, and found nothing in them that could be used as evi- dene st him. Vennalta returned to Chie! st night. The prisoner's alleged forgeries occurred two years ago on two big banks at Capetown, South Africa. The officers in making the arrest took nobody into their confidence.
