N. SUNDAY LIQUOR SELLING. A Case Brought Against a Hotel Pro- prictor Under the New Law. This afternoon, in tie Police Court, Pros- ecuting Attorney Pugh called for trial the first Mquor case under the new law, in which a hotel proprietor thas been charged with violating the provision against Sun- day selling. The defendants in the case were Clayton M. anf Frederick W. Km- rich, proprietors of tle Botel opposite the Baltimore and Ohioy depot. Inder the regulations, hotel proprietors are permitted to sell to their guests om Sunday, but in this case the attorney elaimed that the men who were furnished with the liquor Were not guests within te meaning of the law. Two officers of the potice force, Pierce and Walsh, were the guests at this particular time, although only one of them registered. They were assigned to a room on one of the upper floors. While in the hotel they got oysters, two bottles of beer and a half- pint bottle of whisky. The oysters and whisky were furnished downsiairs, so the officers charged, and the beer was sent up to the room. In settling the bill they paid for the room in addition to the liguid re- freshments, A number of witnesses were examined, and then the case was argued by the counsel. The jury brought in a verdict of guilty, and a notice was given of a motion in arrest of judgment and a new trial.
