She had been ill for several weeks. Mrs. Griffith at one titmé resided in Ana- costia, and was .he daughter of Mr. Miles. Funerai services will be held tomorrow at the Anacostia Baptist Church. Inspector.Beaumont will. visit Anacostia Friday. At his last visit he investigated the conditfoff ‘of the vicinity: of Jefferson street and Stanton avenue, where a large pool of stagnant water was reported. His zeport condemned the nuisance. On Friday his attention_will be called. to a blind drain on Washington street between Adams and Taylor. Clark of Green Vale is spend- ing a vacation with friends at Baltimore. _— FALLS CHURCH. ‘The semi-annual convention of the local vnien of the Christian Endeavor Societies of Northern Virginia met in the Baptist Church here on Saturday morning, with an attendance of i530 delegates and visitors. Bessley of Fairfax called the convention to order, and At Ww m. President F. W. on call of roll of the societies delegate: responded from Loudoun, Fairfax and Alex- andria counties. It appearing that several societies in the district were not connected with the Union, the secretary was instruct- ed to correspond with them and extend an invitation for them to unite. Mrs. 3. On report of delegates being called for, Mr. Nathan Wescott for the Vienna society reported a membership of twenty-seven active mem- bers, well-attended meetings, good working committees, regular monthly missionary meetings, and an increased interest in Sun- day school work. Miss Anna Munson reported the society at Arlington more thoroughly aroused to a higher standard of Christian Endeavor work, a membership of twenty-two active and thirty-four asso- ciates, an increase of ten, a number of ad- ditions to the church from the society, min- isters much interested in the society and the lookout, flower and sunshine com- mittees doing a good work. Febrey ably opened the discussion-on this subject, followed by Prof. Lowe and others. Mrs. Sutton of the Balston society pres- ented a paper on the next subject, “Should active members be required to be members of some church?! On this Rev. W- H. Isdwards, Ray Blanchard and Henry Corn- well spoke. Mr. Ray Blanchard presented the last pa- per, the subject being, “how shall we deal with active members who fail to take part in the meetings?” These exercises were fol- lowed by a “Question Box,” conducted by Ir. F. W. Mr. Joseph Jefferson, the eminent actor, will appear upon the Washington stage on Tuesday of next week in another role than that of a comedian. Those who have. fol- lowed Mr. Jefferson's career are well aware that his leisure hours have been devoted for years to the study and practice of art in the widely accepted. sense of the term. It is questionable whethér he does not love the studio better tham -he does the stage, and the limited work he has accomplished with the brush abundantly testifies to his more than meritorious ability as an artist.
