Louis Bchley of the Grand Lodge of Maryland and @ number of brothers from Capital Lodge, No. 11, and Columbia Lodge, No. 1, of the District of Columbia. J. W. Thompson, P. Mr. Hickey of the public school committee re- rted that it would soon be known where the extra school room would be located. A committee, consisting of Messrs, Em- mons, Hickey and A. Carr, was appointed to repair the road on Columbia avenue with oyster shells. A committee, consisting of Messrs, Drury, Kliener and Gray, was ap- pointed to confer with Capt. Bartlette in Tegard to building a bridge across the Northwestern branch, a short distance above the arch bridge of the Baitimore and Ohio railroad. The secretary was instructed to request the commissioners to have @ watchman stationed at the Baltimore and Ohio crossing at Pike avenue day and night. ft . C. Manning Combs, principal of the Hyattsville public school, has resigne to accept the position of secretary to the super- intendent of Indian schools at Santa Fe, N. M. . ‘The Tuesday Evening Literary Society will meet tonight at the residence of Miss Mary L. Wells. H. Jones, secretaries. The engagement of Miss Fannie E.Grimes, youngest daughter of Mrs. Lucy Grimes, to Mr. W. Clarence Duvall is announced, the wedding to occur early in the coming month. Mr. W. N. Thompson of the Hyattstown Hotel had two valuable horses stolen from bis stables a few nights ago. Mr. and Mrs, Millard Crawford, who have spent the summer here, will leave to spend the winter in Baltimore in a day or two. Sunday evening Mr. W. H. Houghton of Washington delivered an address before the Gaithersburg Mpworth League on “The Primitive Chureh.’ Rev. Thomas Crawford is visiting his for- mer home in Howard county for a week. Rev. R. M. Moore of this place filled the pulpit at McKendree M. BE. Church, Wash- ington, on Sunday, morning and evening. Dr. G. W. T. Wright filled Mr. Moore's pul- pit in Kensington. Mr. B. H. Warner occupied the pulpit in the Presbyterian Church Sunday morn- ing, in the absence of Rev. J. T. Marshall, who ts confined to his home by illness. Miss Laura Gantt has been spending a few days in Washington with Miss Florence Baxter, Mr. W. E. Dulin led the Epworth League meeting last evening. freunse ee ROCKVILLE. In the circuit court for this county, Chief Judge McSherry and Associate Judge Vin- son on the bench, on Saturday the follow- ing cases were considered: Argument was heard on a motion to dissolve an injunction restraining James B. Henderson, assignee, from selling property under a mortgage from Kenneth Murchison to Daniel W. Brown. This land is part of the Forest Glen subdivision, now owned by the Forest Glen Improvement Company, and_ the bill for injunction was filed by Annie M. Hert- ford, the owner of lots in said subdivision, and who claimed that her Interests would be injured by the sale of the property as a whole. No detision in the case has yet been rendered by the court. Three registra- tion cases were also brought to the attention of the court. On the petition to reinstate the name of John C. Lyddard of the second district, after evidence by a number of wit- nesses and argument by counsel, the name was ordered to be reinstated on the list of voters. On the petition to strike from the Ist of voters the names of Richard Duvall and James Duffin, sald petition was dis- missed. In the case of the National Chau- tauqua of Glen Echo agt. the Carl Bar- choff Church Organ Company an order of court has been filed dissolving the Injunc- tion. This case originated in the procuring of an injunction to stop the sale of a por- tion of the land in possession of the Chau- tauqua of Glen Echo to pay for the organ fm the amphitheater at that place. The property was advertised at public auction some weeks ago, but the sale was stopped by the injunction, whicn has now been dis- solved. Hattersly W. Talbott, as attorney, on Saturday last sold to Mr. ©. li. Harr the Emily Prentiss property at Capitol View Pie consisting of a house and lot, for 2.0000. ‘The Rockville Rod and Gan Club held its final clay pigeon contest of the season on Friday atternoon. Among those takin part were several crack shots from Lalti- more, Washington and other places. The first event was for the champlonship gold medal of the club, which was won by R. B. Peter, making a score of 17 out of a pos- sible 20. Jones, this town, left a few days ago for @ visit to friends in Richmond, Pia Wash The smallpox scare, prevalen' ‘ash- ington for tha. past week, has reached this county, and fears are entertained that the disease may reach here through the large number of persons who daily visit the city. During the past few days physicians here and in other parts of the county have been by persons desiring to be vaccinat- ed. In many cases whole familles come at once, from the grandfather down to the in- fant. The drug stores here are also driving @ brisk trade in vaccine points. There has not been a case of the disease in this local- ity since 1858, and at that time it created a t panic in the neighborhood. though a week will elapse before the election, there does not sponte to be the usual interest manifested by the members of either of the political parties in this county. During the past week a number of meetings have been held in various locali- ties, but they have, as a’ rule, not been very largely attended. On Saturday meet- ings were held at Laytonsville by the dem- ocrats and ‘at Sandy Spring and Sligo by the republicans. So far as this county is concerned, political affairs are in such shape that it would take a graduate of a guessing school to come near the result. Predictions as to the democratic majority vary from 450 to 900. . A pleasant and well-attend dramatic entertainment was given at the opera house, this place, on Friday night by a class of graduates of the Washington High School. The company consisted of R. W. Test, manager; J. 5S. Wall, W. Morgan Shuster, Howard S. Burbank and L. H. Reichelderfer; Misses Grace Ross, Fanny Appleby, Helen Biddis and Gertrude Hol- den. Three comedies were given, each one of which was received with applause. Mr. Wilton Greenway of Havre de Grace, id., is visiting friends in this vicinity.
